Yours truly mentioned in Saturday’s Miami Herald – Miami Herald

Do you think Bruce Jenner was texting when the tragic car accident occurred? NY Daily News

IUC Travel: On my recent European tour I had the pleasure of staying at Radisson Blu Turku. I’ve stayed at several Radisson Blu’s in the past but the one in Turku was a special gem. Aside from spacious, clean rooms, the hotel’s spa and restaurant were next to none. And the proximity of the hotel was perfect – just a few minutes walk to the center of the city When visiting Turku, Radisson Blu is a must. Staff is extra friendly, offering you directions to wherever you want to visit in stunning and vibrant Turku. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. Turku is Finland’s second largest city. It seems more quaint and more sophisticated than Helsinki Bravo Radisson Blu, bravo Turku!!!!

Yes, I think there’s more the Bruce Jenner story Ian. I hope it comes out. Great clues today, hope the posters solve them. I have always wanted to visit Finland. Don’t know much about Turku but I will stay at that hotel when I go. Is your Brangelina film coming out soon?

Zero Hedge is an insane Austrian economics based financial blog run by “Tyler Durden”.

Mabinogi is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game based on Irish mythology yet out of Korea.

Two step Zydeco is an Acadian dance in which the follower mirrors the steps of the leader.

Lark Voohies, an American actress, was not part of the “Saved by the Bell” reunion.

Can’t believe I’m doing this because I am so LAME with these riddles. BUT … here is what I have so far.

Crystal Ball – looking to the future

Lark Voorhies – face ruined by plastic surgery???

Grid addon – Let’s you select a group member quickly while keeping a good overview of the whole group. Shows as much information as possible without overloading you.

Smelling ammonia after workout – high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Also, in my own words, a waste byproduct.

Listing things after a colon – introducing a series of items

Butter to coconut oil conversion – one-to-one ratio/equal

Same ol two step zydeco – something for the young and old, successful and grounded

Frogs boiling water – We all know THIS story! Place a frog in water that is brought to a boil through gradual temperature increase and he will make no attempt to escape. HOWEVER, this is, in fact: False.

Chasing a rumor mabinago – Much can be made from pieces of information. TALK to people, gather info!

Frying thermometer – measuring the temperature

Zero hedge then and now – Tyler Durden (BP), then and now.

Frogs boiling water is interesting (I didn’t know this story!). If this is supposed to be Brad he did try to escape in 2010 according to the NOTW divorce story. And her face has definitely been ruined by plastic surgery. She was beautiful at the height of her brangelina fame, now she’s hard to look at. Tyler Durden is the character Brad played in Fight Club. I never saw the movie but I thought it was considered one of his best movies – the description from IMDB:

An insomniac office worker looking for a way to change his life crosses paths with a devil-may-care soap maker and they form an underground fight club that evolves into something much, much more…

So I read JA is going to be a presenter at the Oscars.

One thing that really bothered me about the Oscar race this year was that some of the press and critics said that JA’s goal in taking the role was to get an Oscar nomination in hopes of getting an Oscar. What about all the other actresses that either got or were close to getting an Oscar nominaton? I don’t recall any other actress in past years being “accused” of what JA was accused of.

Why wasn’t Jolie called out this way, with her trying to get nominated as best director? Unbroken was her second directorial debut. It has been obvious since she was announced as director in 2013 that she was going after the Oscar. Aniston. who has been an actress in films for over 20 years is accused of going after the Oscar for best actress, but no one calls out Jolie for gunning for the Oscar for best director in her second film.

If anyone should have been called out it’s her. Her shamelessly exploiting the Pope in her pursuit of a nomination was disgusting but almost nothing was said about that. The extremes this woman goes to for attention is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Now it appears that she’s single-white-femaling Amal Clooney. I wondered why she announced her new name in London as A Jolie-Pitt until I saw these photos. Poor Amal.

That’s a great point of view. The ones to write concerning that, are the trade papers, without naming names. The Hollywood Reporter and VARIETY, are just two. However, and this is from a longtime observer, the Oscar voters are very petty! Not alluding to JA, regarding the pettiness of the Oscar voters. It’s just a historical fact.

I don’t know if some bloggers are paid for blaming JA for everything she does. Who started all that in the first place? We sort of feel we know. These posters are all over the sites. One imagines, sometimes, these posters are high on something; because they are not playing with a full deck, so to speak. One further thinks that these posters have no life, whatsoever. They are miserable lowlifes; and we remember the old saw: MISERY LOVES COMPANY.
Perhaps JA figured all this out a long time ago.

These sad bloggers could easily point out that M. Streep is Numero Uno, when it comes to choosing roles that are Oscar bait. She seems to be insatiable! Truth! Furthermore, many actresses could have done an equal, if not better job, with some of the portrayals she has given. And they would have added personality to the characters. But the producers give her first choice. The bloggers don’t dare point this out, because she’s not an easy target, like JA.
(Watch and see, AJ will buddy up to MS, and be photographed by the media).

Also, BP couldn’t get the Oscar, as an actor. He’s just not good enough, at this stage. So he went after the stories about black people, as a producer.
All this is about image. They use black people; black kids; Jennifer Aniston; the pope; the list goes on and on.

I’ve enjoyed some of Meryl Streep’s movies and others not much at all. I think she’s a talented actress but there are better actors (IMO), most of them are British. I’ve yet to understand why Julianne Moore is so revered. She is bland and I cannot remember a single role of hers other than the recent Hunger Games movie where I thought she was miscast. Amy Adams is another one that is overrated, in my opinion. I think one of the problems JA had concerning the Oscars was that not enough screeners of her movie were sent to the academy (or so I’ve read) and so her performance was not seen by many voters. She’s also been a tabloid fixture and that worked against her. I think. And the smear campaign against her by the dirty duo that continues to this day has not helped.

The Oscar is a false idol. It harkens back to the days when the people worshiped a golden calf. History has repeated itself in so many ways that are obvious, today.

Esteemed actors such as George C. Scott, Marlon Brando, and others have branded it a BEAUTY CONTEST; A POPULARITY CONTEST. This has been true from the beginning, when they were chosen by the studio heads.
The first 2 winners definitely deserved their prizes. Their work, that year stands up today. The next year, is when popularity reared its ugly head. And that ugly head has never looked back, as is seen in numerous cases.

Who hasn’t won an Oscar? A few come to mind: Alfred Hitchcock, Deborah Kerr, Richard Burton, Albert Finney, Cary Grant, Greta Garbo, Peter O’Toole, Barbara Stanwyck and Glenn Close.

It’s apparent that somewhere in the recesses of the mind of some who won, they actually think they were better than their peers. No wonder it appears that some have made a deal with the devil. Hopefully not, but that would explain some choices; even for nominations, and why they worship this modern day “golden calf”.

IRS to pay back-refunds to illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes

Lawmakers fear illegals could use Obama amnesty to find ways to vote

By Stephen Dinan – The Washington Times – Wednesday, February 11, 2015

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress on Wednesday that even illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes will be able to claim back-refunds once they get Social Security numbers under President Obama’s temporary deportation amnesty.

The revelation — which contradicts what he told Congress last week — comes as lawmakers also raised concerns Mr. Obama’s amnesty could open a window to illegal immigrants finding ways to vote, despite it being against the law.

“While we may disagree about whether your deferred action programs were lawfully created and implemented, we are confident that we can all agree that these programs cannot be permitted to impair the integrity of our elections,” Republican members of Congress from Ohio wrote in a letter to Mr. Obama Wednesday, ahead of a hearing on the issue in the House on Thursday.

Mr. Obama’s new deportation policies, which carve most illegal immigrants out of danger of being removed, and could proactively grant as many as 4 million illegal immigrants work permits and Social Security numbers, are increasingly under fire for ancillary consequences such as tax credits and competition for jobs.

Mr. Koskinen, testifying to the House oversight committee, said the White House never asked him or anyone else at the IRS about the potential tax effects of his amnesty policy.

“I haven’t talked to the White House about this at all,” he said.

He also clarified his testimony to the Senate last week, where he acknowledged illegal immigrants who had paid taxes using substitute Social Security numbers but who gain real Social Security numbers when they are approved for the amnesty can apply for back-refunds of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

On Wednesday, he said even illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes will be able to apply for back-credits once they get Social Security numbers.

The EITC is a refundable tax credit, which means those who don’t have any tax liability can still get money back from the government.

“Under the new program, if you get a Social Security number and you work, you’ll be eligible to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit,” Mr. Koskinen said.

He said that would apply even “if you did not file” taxes, as long as the illegal immigrant could demonstrate having worked off-the-books during those years.

That expands the universe of people eligible for the tax credit by millions. He said only about 700,000 illegal immigrants currently work and pay taxes using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, but as many as 4 million illegal immigrants could get a stay of deportation and work permits under the temporary amnesty, which would mean they would be eligible to claim back-refunds if they worked those years.

Rep. Mick Mulvaney, the South Carolina Republican who grilled Mr. Koskinen on the tax credits, said he was stunned the White House never checked with the IRS on the tax implications of its move.

“That’s just outrageous,” he said. “If Congress had passed a law doing exactly what the president did, we would have had not only an estimate of the costs, but we would have also been required to propose ways to pay for the programs. This is just another example of the administration operating outside the rule of law.”

Mr. Koskinen said he didn’t know how much money the tax refunds would cost, and said the White House never checked with him before announcing the amnesty. He said the maximum annual credit is between $500 and $600 for an individual.

It must still obviously cause pain despite her success that she has not been able to bear children and that Angelina’s team of cyber hackers create the illusion that jennifer is happily baron, but her state of mind is comfortable with what life gave her.

I realise that Angelina was trying her very , very , very best to really, really hurt jennifer and make out that she did not want to bear Brad’s children, but the payback for that is happening now…..I’m just a lowly nobody but I can see the bullshit that Angelina’s team of “cyber hackers” have caused..Angelina looks more like a a desperate attention seeker everyday. Everyday she appears to be more and more desperate to be noticed.. any kind of story printed with her name in it is a good day for her. There really is no mind reading needed to form the opinion that this woman is mentally ill. All it takes is observing extreme, abnormal behavior including, but not limited to, faking chicken pox, using the Pope to promote her pursuit of an Oscar nomination, selling out her children’s privacy for money and attention, having a fake wedding, presenting it as real and writing nasty things on her own veil. The list goes on. But if that isn’t enough then we should certainly believe her own father that she is in need of mental help. And let’s not forgot Scott Rudin.

I was referring to the recent article ( December of last year) which I saw in the Daily Mail and many other sites st the same time about Brad and Angelina employing a team of cyber security to monitor their children’s internet use.

The timing and reason of such an announcement seemed odd. Alot of what they post about themselves as a family or as individuals, to me, has an ulterior motive.

My take or twist on the cyber security post was that Angelina/Brad are sending a strong message to people who critiscise them on sites such as this that this team are “not just watching over the kids”, they’re watching “you”, ie , any of us.

Of course whan you put it into context with the Sony Hacking scandal, it makes sense that another mssage would be “We have a team protecting our kids form bad people” . And when I say “bad people” I mean criminals.

I’m going to take your critiscism on the chin anonymous. I have been too abrasive. And I should lighten my posts up.

I wish we could truck our snow out to you. They’re putting it in “snow farms” but the piles are so high that they’re using ice melting machines to melt it and make room for more snow that never seems to stop coming. It’s been so cold that nothing is melting so that’s made the problem worse. At this rate I think we’ll still have snow piles in June. Is it because of global warming that one end of the country is buried is snow while the other end is suffering from a drought?

Here in Southern Cal, it is reported that we’re going to experience another year of drought. Oh, the people continue to pour into So. Cal. at a tremendous rate! Formerly quiet areas are now overrun with noisy vehicles. Peace and quiet is a thing of the past. Was walking about a mile in the heart of a nearby shopping area, and I heard six different sirens within a half hour.

Homeless, and ” third world peoples” are everywhere. Trash and graffiti all over this once clean neighborhood. One can see food left out for them on top of trash cans. It’s the crowded streets and the traffic that make for many a headache! Many of the homeless are young, white males. Obviously, hooked on something, or other.
It’s still liveable, but no longer the secluded, clean and quiet section of the city.

Driving to the snow is nice. It’s been a while since I’ve gone skiing, but I’ve heard that some resorts have already closed due to the lack of snow. :( I haven’t heard if that’s changed since our last storm. No rain in sight again. :( I can remember how cold it was as a child playing in the snow at my grandparent’s house in Quebec. I love the snow, but not that much for it not to melt until June! I’ve played in the snow in the mountains here in June. Okay, so that was a long time ago! Something is sure messing with the weather these days. We do get warm days now and then during the winter, but not several days in a row!

I grew up in a town in the SF Bay Area. I remember riding horses over the hills and it was quiet. Now all that separates one town/city from the other is a sign stating the town/city and population. Just like down south. The hills are covered in homes, freeways are several lanes across, and trying to find a quiet scenic place to go for a drive is almost impossible. The homeless are everywhere and towns that were once safe now have problems with gangs. I know that things always change, but it’s sad.

It was so different back in the day. The hippies brought in the drugs, popularized by the Rolling Stones, and other rock idols.
    Haight Asbury!
Then, the murders of politicians, Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone.
    Then the Aids tragedy.
I used to work in the financial district as a mail room attendant. I’d see guys looking in the best of health, and a couple of weeks later, they’d be dead. Same with the Naval Hospital where I worked before I moved to San Francisco. Marines who looked like they could go on bivouac, would be leaving us all too soon. Of course, I had no idea of the disease, except it was sexually transmitted. I guess the biggest surprise for me, was that a few priests were victims, as well.

Changes! And even in my church, the Roman Catholic Church. Despite all this, it’s well attended.

You really don’t remember telling everyone about your huge crush on Florence and how you were at a release party and were too shy to approach her and profess your love or crush – thereby missing your chance with her. I have a good memory for all sorts of useless info but it seems you don’t even remember your own life. Happy to remember it for you. You had good taste back in the day.

Christ! Anonymous I have to say you do indeed have a better recollection of my life than I do as I had completely forgotten about that! (I am glad to see you are such an avid reader of my posts that you would hold on to that information a good half a decade later though – can’t think why you would maintain such a keen interest in me!). Just to update you on the considerable time that has passed since then my interest in Flo was merely a fleeting thing and evaporated not long after the release party (glad you even remember the exact event I went to as well – christ!) and life has changed considerably for me since then. Florence I quickly decided was not as talented as I at first thought, quite constructed image-wise and, in the words of a friend of mine who encountered her on another occasion “quite annoying”. Now when I hear her on the radio I quickly turn it off. So in answer to your question which seems to be reaching back into the beginning of time for me in terms of my life – no I am not enjoying “the latest excitement at the plethora of goodies from Flo” as you mentioned as I never give her a second thought, except to think “oh dear”. So if you want to pretend to know me you should probably try to refer to something about me that happened some time after 2010!

I told you I have a memory that is almost photographic – it helped me skate through school and serves me well in my profession. If i see it once, no matter how long ago, I can recall it with just subtle reminders e.g. seeing her new video and then soon after seeing your name. You obviously don’t remember but you made quite a big deal out of your angst over not connecting with her. I remember being disappointed for you.

I also remember trying to figure out why Keane thought Tinkuy was James Haven, so I did abit of googling, as you do, and discovered Tinkuy is in Peru. And guess what, there’s an organisation in Tinkuy which helps orphaned children.

Then,…..after doing some “youtube” research on James Haven, as you do, discovered a video where he tells someone that he has just been or is going to PERU to help orphaned children.

Recently I tried to find this video again without success but thought it worth mentioning now that we are monitoring”who” is monitoring us. And I hope whoever is monitoring us realizes that I am mentioning all this in good humour.

Thank you so much for researching that name, you connected the dots to someone in Jolie’s camp. I thought it was James Haven and Keane seemed to know who the poster was. He seems to have no job in the industry that we know of so it makes sense to believe he is employed by his sister as a paid poster at various sites. I think the goddaughter is as well. Now, the question in my mind is “who is Keane”?

Ha ha I am no-one don’t worry, or at least no-one related to them. I say she knows who I am because whether people believe it or not my e-mail was hacked back when this site was causing ructions around the time of the release of Ian’s book. It has never happened to me before and it has never happened to me since so it was quite unmistakeable. Plus then the pair of numptys decided to post under my real name on the site (which was kind of decisive evidence obis!) which sadly for them constitutes a crime under British law (bit more of research on this needed methinks Holly and James!). I reported it and got a crime reference number for it so hopefully for them the computer they hacked me with was encrypted so it couldn’t link back to them (or knowing them, probably not!). I know Holly knows who I am because of this, because she has referenced a doc I worked on in previous posts by name (which I have never mentioned on here and nobody would know unless they’d read my CV) and because she obviously takes a more than passing interest in me to the point where she seems to remember more about my life than I do. She will have a little file of all my posts printed out somewhere next to my CV and any other information she can find on me all neatly stored away somewhere in case I were to ever go ahead with trying to expose Angie’s little (big) secrets. This little lady thinks she has a shot at the White House – and when you’re attempting something that serious you make sure you keep all potential threats monitored.

Nicole DuFault, 35, allegedly had sex with six different young teen students, according to a grand jury’s indictment. Essex County Sheriff’s Office Nicole DuFault, 35, allegedly had sex with six different young teen students, according to a grand jury’s indictment.

A New Jersey teacher took advantage of six different students ages 14 and 15, having sex with them at school and in her car, for more than a year, prosecutors say.

Among the damning evidence is video of 35-year-old Nicole DuFault — the single mother of two young children — performing oral sex on one of the boys while another victim was nearby, according to prosecutors, who levied 40 counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child against the former Columbia High School teacher.

The Maplewood, N.J., teacher was busted in September and originally charged with having sex with three students. But two more victims were discovered shortly after and a grand jury, which indicted the teacher on Tuesday, found a sixth.

All of the incidents happened on “multiple occasions” in 2013 and 2014, prosecutors said.

Colter Hettich/New York Daily News Photo Illustration DuFault daces 40 different charges after an Essex County grand jury found evidence suggesting she performed a series of sex acts with students at Columbia High School in Maplewood.

DuFault, originally of Bloomfield, spent nine years as a language arts teacher at Columbia High before her arrest.

The boys were all 14 and 15 years old. The sex acts took place on school property and in the teacher’s car, prosecutors say.

Despite the video evidence, which DuFault’s attorney admitted he had yet to see, her defense team plans a vigorous defense that may focus on the teen boys as the aggressors.

“If the video depicts certain things happening … that doesn’t mean that my client’s not innocent,” attorney Timothy Smith told NJ.com after DuFault’s court appearance in September. “People are victimized by juveniles all the time.”

The alleged predator is free on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court March 6.

Jennifer’s film was not only snubbed by the academy but also the public! The movie couldn’t even make $2m at the box office. The woman doesn’t have a fan base and if she did before then its shrinking and nothing to write home about.. Her fans are only good at watching the other couple’s movie and trashing it.

Cake was truly ridiculous. I will say that Anistons performance was one of the only not awful things about the movie though, so good for her I guess? As for the Selma thing, I agree that nobody should feel compelled to vote for a movie ‘just because there’s black people in it’ and if voters genuinely didn’t see the ‘art’ in Selma, okay (though I loved it). But people who either don’t recognize or aren’t willing to admit that this issue goes beyond this one movie irritate me. There is absolutely a diversity problem in the academy and in Hollywood at large. The stats on this are plain to see.

    Bugglez says:
    February 19, 2015 at 7:49 am

Lolol. Why does anyone care who the academy voter was that threw shade at Aniston’s ridiculous campaign? It’s not a ‘name,’ and though they may be powerful in H’wood (PR branch) the general public doesn’t care who’s dissing her accordingly just that she’s being dissed – period. She’s the most coddled person in the industry and everyone knows why that is.

    Bugglez says:

Two reasons – 1) she’s got the equivalent of a Goodfella in her power PR cutthroat flack that protects her with his life because she’s his number 1 cash cow..they might as well marry each other — except he’s gay. ..and 2) she’s the poor pitiful low self esteem ordinary hack that loads of other ordinary women ID with who was dumped for the beautiful Oscar winner. Insulting her and calling her out for what she is, desperate, embarrassing and ordinary is akin to insulting them personally.

Anyone notice that despite her protests that the Triangle was “BS”, the tabloid stories continue unabated? Too bad some of this voters honesty can’t rub off on Aniston – then we’d finally get the truth’ “I’m addicted to fame”, ” I’ll have Huvane stop the Triangle stories only if I win an Oscar”, “I don’t like kids, I never planned to have any, even when I was married, and I never will.”

This story first appeared in the Feb. 27 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

When the Academy expanded its best picture category from five films to as many as 10 in 2009, the goal was to counter the trend toward smaller movies grabbing the Oscar spotlight and to bring in some higher-grossing studio films so the public would have more of a rooting interest in the annual awards show. At first, it worked, with the 2010 crop generating a whopping $4.7 billion worldwide (Avatar’s $2.7 billion helped). But with few exceptions, it’s been a gradual downward slide since then, suggesting the Academy and the public increasingly are at loggerheads. And that’s bad news for potential Oscar viewership.

But even with the decreased overall box office, all eight of the best picture contenders likely will be profitable this year. Comparing budget to revenue, The Imitation Game is the most successful Oscar-nominated movie of the year. The film’s $157.1 million in global box office (and counting) gives it the highest-percentage return-on-investment. In pure dollars, American Sniper has made far more money (nearly $400 million globally), but it will need to top $600 million to match Imitation Game’s multiple. What that means in actual profit is less clear, of course. “We don’t know what was spent on marketing and what were the ’splits,’ meaning who got how much,” says Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst with Rentrak.

While the performance of such individual pictures as Sniper and Imitation Game might be good news, that can’t mask the marked dip in total box office for this year’s best picture nominees compared with a year ago. By Feb. 16, the eight current nominees had earned $999.5 million globally. That leaves a long way to go before they can catch up with the final global haul of $1.99 billion for last year’s nine nominees (led by Gravity with $716.4 million). When you go back a few years: The 2013 nominees tallied $2.39 billion (led by Life of Pi with $609 million), and the 2011 nominees included global hits Toy Story 3 ($1.1 billion), Inception ($825.5 million) and Black Swan ($329.4 million). Taken together, those films make Sniper and its cohorts look positively small-time.

So what we’re really worried about here is the ratings of the Oscar telecast? Let’s just accept the fact that a 3 hour borefest of celebrities thanking a bunch of people we’ve never heard of and songs cut short to fit in more ads is not going to be a ratings winner, then everybody can get on with nominating the best individuals and films in each category and stop worrying about whether Hugh Jackman or Neil Patrick Harris is going to draw more viewers.

I used to love watching this growing up but, as soon as I entered the industry and saw what it’s really like behind the scenes and how people really treat and think of one another, the show has become simply intolerable to watch anymore and so I don’t. It’s nothing more than a farce. Everyone pretending to love everyone else even though they hate each others guts and everyone pretending they did the movie for the art but only finally signed on after having their agents haggle for months to wring out every last dime they could from the producers before they deemed it even worth doing.

    Really, who cares?
These people do nothing but spit on m culture, they can’t make a movie without denigrating my culture and way of life, they actively seek to elect people who do the same – why would I or anyone in the same position want to see an awards show put on by these people?

Agreed. It’s becoming increasingly more difficult to put certain things aside and just enjoy a movie when you know the star takes every opportunity they can in interviews and on Twitter and such wishing death on those who think differently in regard to politics. In the 1990s, I don’t think I or anyone knew the politics of any star. They kept such opinions to themselves instead of alienating half the population one way or another.

I cut the cable and threw the TV out a few years ago for that reason. Netflix isn’t bad. It’s cheap, and you can pick and choose what you want to see, commercial free. Netflix is $7.00 + per month, no commercials. Cable is $60+ per month; you are bombarded with commercials and you are told what to watch. Netflix still offers all the liberal crap…but one is allowed to comment…which I do.

Another factor might be the lack of creativity in Hollywood combine with the overpricing of entertainment. Most stories that make it out of the studios are either not worth telling or not worth the price. Doubt more and better TV is that big a factor but cheaper, more innovative delivery channels probably has more to do with it. When a viewer can either pay $50 to watch an unknown movie at the theater or pay next to nothing to watch a classic at home, most people will opt for the more reliable entertainment at the lower cost.

Another opportunity for the movie industry to have an “awards” ceremony to say how great they are. Can you find a bigger bunch of people with larger egos? Why and the hell do people watch this garbage? How about all the other people in this country who actually do great work? Once upon a time the only awards shows aired on TV were the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Emmys and the Tonys. They had prestige. Now there seems to be another awards show every week which only dilutes the importance and relevance of the others (and the originals). Awards shows are nothing more than marketing with most wins resulting in a boost in box office. Thinking people see through that. The sheep continue to watch the latest awards show airing each week.

Just realized I haven’t watched in 10 years. Just too boring. I prefer the Globes, where they can imbibe, and relax. They don’t have to sit in those chairs trying to be good sports during the length of the four hours, or so show.

My female friend volunteered the information that she, and her family didn’t care for “Birdman” or “Boyhood”, the two frontrunners, according to the pundits. She told me that if it weren’t for the raves, and their frontrunner status, (my paraphrasing), they’d have walked out of the theater.
A few voters are saying that they prefer “American Sniper” over those two.

The real battle is over the actor choice. And the majority of voters are Americans. They will likely prefer an American over others. But some say that Redmayne has the role. The role that will be remembered for the ages.

There are 5,783 voting members, according to last count. They comprise:

    1,150 Actors.
    Others:
Designers (created from Art Directors branch)
    Cinematographers.
    Directors.
    Documentary.
    Executives.
    Film Editors.
    Make up Artists and Hairstylists.
    Music.
    Producers.
    Public Relations.
    Short Films and Feature Animation.
    Sound.
    Visual Effects.
    Writers.
    Members-at-large.
Usually, each branch has under 400 members.

    Voting members are:

    94% CAUCASIAN
    77% MALE
    66% OVER AGE 60

Have read comments from un-named voters. There appears to be a backlash against the blacks who complained about the total lack of diversity this year. They specifically mentioned “Selma” as not being worthy of an Oscar.
Similarly, there’s a defensive stance regarding the criticized “American Sniper”. So a few of the comments I’ve read extolled the positives they saw in the film, and voted accordingly.

All of it points to it being a POPULARITY CONTEST!

The men and women here far preferred The Super Bowl.

They’re getting vibrators for their bugger holes and cunnies in their gift bags.

    Marianne Zumberge
    @marianniepants

Don’t feel bad for the Academy Award nominees who go home empty-handed on Oscar night; none of this year’s best actor/actress, supporting actor/actress and director contenders should be sore losers when they see the contents of their gift bags, valued at more than $125,000.

In addition to the usual smorgasbord of luxury skincare products and high-end accessories associated with these annual goodie bags, this year’s giveaway includes a number of jaw-dropping highlights: a three-night stay at a resort in Tuscany valued at $1,500; a luxury train ride through the Canadian Rockies worth more than $14,500; natural French Mediterranean sea salts worth $1,500; a custom silver necklace inscribed with the latitude and longitude coordinates of the Dolby Theater from Lat & Lo at $150; a “glamping” trip valued at $12,500; a $800 gift certificate for a custom candy and dessert buffet; a $250 Haze vaporizer; a $250 Afterglow vibrator; a Wellness 360 gift pack worth $1,200; a year’s worth of all-Audi A4 car rental from Silvercar valued at $20,000; a Reset Yourself lifestyle makeover package worth more than $14,200; and so much more.

The most highly valued item in this year’s bag, according to the press release from Distinctive Assets, the bag’s creator, is a $20,000 gift certificate to have Enigma Life founder Olessia Kantor fly out to meet with each nominee “to discuss their 2015 horoscope, analyze dreams and teach them mind control techniques.”

Who needs a little gold statue when you can learn mind control?

To be clear, these gift bags are in no way endorsed by the Academy itself. In fact, in 2006, the Academy voted to end the distribution of gift bags after reaching an agreement with the IRS that stipulated recipients of the swag bags would have to pay taxes on them.

    And in other news………..

Hollywood (United States) (AFP) – African-American civil rights groups plan to protest outside Sunday’s Oscars show, where every single one of this year’s 20 acting nominees is white.

However small, the demonstration will revive debate about diversity at the Oscars-awarding Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose voting members are overwhelmingly white and with an average age in their 60s.

“The goal of the protest is to send a message to the Academy, send a message to Hollywood, send a message to the film industry,” said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, head of the LA Urban Policy Roundtable group.

“And the message is very simple: you don’t reflect America, your industry doesn’t reflect America. Women, Hispanics, African-Americans, people of color (are) invisible in Hollywood.”

Halle Berry and Denzel Washington were famously lauded as having made a breakthrough for winning best actress and actor Oscars in 2002, but while there has been some progress in the decade since, it remains too little.

Critics rounded on the Academy as soon as the nominations were announced last month, with all-white acting categories for the first time in nearly two decades: the last time was in 2011, and before that, 1998.

Notable snubs included Britain’s David Oyelowo, widely tipped for playing Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma”. The film’s director Ava DuVernay, was also left out, although the movie is among eight picture nominees.

The Academy has defended itself. Its first African American president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, said shortly after nominations were unveiled that they spurred her to accelerate reforms to make the Academy more inclusive.

“Personally, I would love to see and look forward to (seeing) a greater cultural diversity among all our nominees in all of our categories,” she said at the time.

But Darnell Hunt, head of the UCLA center for African American studies, and author of “The Hollywood Diversity Report”, said the Academy is heading in the wrong direction.

Hunt, who plans to release an update on his diversity report in a couple of weeks, said that 93 percent of the Academy’s members are white, about 70 percent male, while the average age is 63.

“In many ways the Academy is falling further and further behind because America is more diverse,” he said.

“In about two or three decades, we are going to be majority minority (with minorities making up most of US population) and you are going to have an Academy with 90 something percent white? That makes no sense.”

Peter Saphier, a member of the Academy since 1978 and former Universal executive who produced “Scarface” (1983), acknowledged that the body has some work to do.

“There should be more diversity within the Academy itself,” he told AFP.

“They are trying to do something about it. We have an African American president. She is doing all she can to increase the membership diversity.”

William Smart Jr, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, said: “This is unjust, to see the lack of African Americans in the presentation. So we’re mad! We’re upset!”

He stressed that there are “so many” actors from various ethnics and racial groups.

“But the process eliminates them,” Smart said.

“There is an invisible ceiling over their heads, that the Academy has put there. We’re calling for them to tear down that invisible ceiling.”

Sunday’s diversity protest is planned for 2:00 pm (2200 GMT), only minutes before Hollywood’s finest begin taking to the red carpet for the pre-show fashion parade, and barely three hours before curtain up on the 2015 Oscars.

Neil Patrick Harris hopes for Oscar scandal
Bryan Alexander, USA TODAY 3:04 p.m. EST February 19, 2015

There’s still time before Neil Patrick Harris takes the Oscar stage, so the first-time host needs some help. Pronto.

“I need a scandal,” he says thinking out loud during a phone discussion. “I wouldn’t mind if someone was caught with a prostitute. Or maybe something with someone unexpected. Maybe Clint Eastwood or Bobby Duvall.”

His rolls through other options before imploring, “Can you just print something even if it’s totally not true, so that I can reference.

Sorry, Neil, we’ll let fate handle any last-minute comic gifts before the 87th Academy Awards curtain rises Sunday night (ABC, 7 ET/4 PT). But viewers will be in good hands with the multitalented Harris, who will show off his full complement of skills: singing, dancing and even “a hint” of magic.

Yet, the four-time Tony and two-time Emmy host still yearns for more material to push the show to another level. It’s a complicated, lengthy process he’s been at work on since he announced his hosting gig last October.

Oscar host intends to spank ‘Fifty Shades’

Comic material has been mined, inspected and massaged with a team of writers. Harris says the meetings are filled with edgy, sometimes bawdy humor.

“We have hilarious material. I tend to laugh and then follow it up with, ‘We cannot possibly say that on the show,’ ” says Harris.

Moviegoers would give Oscar to ‘American Sniper’

The last-minute chores involve working through the existing material, locking in the working jokes, throwing out the lame ones — and praying for more comic rain.

Harris, 41, gives clues about his style. He’s going to be a kind host like Billy Crystal, the Oscar mainstay he grew up watching. Don’t expect the Hollywood digs seen from past host Seth MacFarlane or Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais.

“I skew kinder. I want to keep it a classy show,” says Harris. “It’s a night of celebration. All of these people worked so hard all year long, all career long to attend this night. To make jokes at them, that’s just not my style.”

Only tidbits have trickled out (performances by Lady Gaga, Jack Black). Harris keeps the cards very close to his chest. But he’s ethereally calm, even taking time after the Grammy Awards to fly back to New York for Valentine’s Day with husband David Burtka.

He acknowledges being “refreshed” and confident under producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in their third Oscars. Bathtub gin isn’t hurting either.

“It’s not the style of gin, it’s just a bathtub filled with gin,” says Harris. “Good for the skin. And I have a bendy straw that keeps me sedated all day.”

But he could still use that scandal. Harris riffs again.

“OK, I’ll settle for a broken ankle. If Clint Eastwood breaks his ankle, not at all funny,” says Harris. “But if Jennifer Lawrence does it — there’s got to be a joke there somewhere.”

On Oscar night, he’ll do quiet contemplation and deep breathing before hitting the stage. He’s certain the show will be fun. The backup plan if it isn’t?

“There’s a streaker on standby. And his name is NPH,” Harris says. “If things go bad, I can only go out big. If you know what I mean. …That’s a euphemism.”

Friday the 20th of February was the birthday of kurt cobain. I thought it worth mentioning as Ian, His Highness, co-authored a book back about the circumstances surrounding his suspicious death in 1994.

If you go to “cobaincase.com” , you can see the trailer for a movie, doco drama , called “Soaked in Bleach”, being released in Germany and Japan currently and in the near future in the USA.

The cobaincase.com website has a reference to Ian’s book when you look at the link to the trailer.

For anyone who has followed this from the beginning there are no surprises. But I must commend Ian Halperin for putting this information “out there”. I have read a few of Ian’s books and I think he is a capable writer who has a nice way of engaging the reader.

I have not read his book to do with the allegations of “murder”, which I believe to be true , but I wanted to just say that Ian is someone I respect for putting himself on the line.

Once the movie is released in the States, I’d say Courtney Love will be under alot of pressure…….

I think it also worth mentioning that Courtney Love will sue just about anyone for the most miniscule of reasons …..EXCEPT for anyone referencing the allegations that she had Kurt Cobain murdered.

One thing that will come to light eventually is that the money she refers to as having been misappropriated will prove to be “hush” money for the arranged assasination of Kurt Cobain as well as personal use ,ie, drug money .

The cobaincase.com webiste is worth a good look. It has been in existance for nearly 20yrs.

I experienced the futility of trying to dissuade a young person from committing suicide. He had been friends with a popular minister. He often discussed his views about his hopeless situation. And the minister did his best to help. Apparently, TC told the minister that I was his “only friend”. The minister told me he would send TC to me, He said TC was talking about suicide. He made it seem like I was TC’s last hope.

I did what I could. I used every argument in my experience. I guess I knew that by the time he came to me, he had already made up his mind. His eyes had that faraway look. He seemed to not hear a word I said; just stared blankly.

I told the minister that I couldn’t “reach” Tom. Later, I learned Tom did do it. The minister acted like I let Tom down.

However, I know that I was at least lucky to have been able to experience a lot of things that today’s youth out here won’t. I say “out here” because there are still open spaces – for now. Today’s youth will be saying “I remember when….” to their children. :/

If one could see a black and white photo of a ’50s scene. They’d be happily surprised at the pristine environment. Clear, clear atmosphere.

I did tune in at the very end of the Oscar show to see if Michael Keaton or Eddie Redmayne would triumph.
    Enjoyed Julianne Moore’s winning moments.
I must say that the Best Director winner made me agree with Sean Penn, for a change. Switched to “Downton Abbey”.

I love to watch “Downton Abbey!” People, such as my grandparents, saw so much change take place during their lives. Electricity in homes, automobiles, airplanes, and a man on the moon. Then women went from being covered up to being allowed to wear a swimsuit, including those that are next to nothing. Women aren’t expected to just find a husband and raise babies – women can now find a career, vote, and hold political office. Of course, some men (and women) complain about some of these latter changes.

So the Oscars were a bit of a yawn then. All the contenders were just so down-to-earth and low-key weren’t they? Just like us regular folks. Where were the people who really buy into their own hype when you need them? (Yes Angie and Brad I mean you). It just lacked something didn’t it – that element of “look at me I’m just so special aren’t I?” that Brangelina typically provide. Next time Oscar organisers, please can we make sure we wheel out Angie and Brad for the evening to make sure we all stay awake for the duration of the ceremony? It just lacked that “camp event” quality for me. Meh.

I was thinking that it was very dull and could have used a little brange though I don’t think anything will ever top the leg bomb. While I like Neil Patrick Harris he added nothing to the show. It was one of the lowest watched AA shows but that’s probably due to there being no interesting nominees or movies. I find Julianne Moore rather boring and while Eddie Redmayne is cute and talented he’s far from exciting. That’s my opinion, anyway. Also, Sunday night in the US has some very popular programs so that could be another reason people tuned out. I only watched bits and pieces in between my programs.

Yes and who the winners were going to be was all so predictable wasn’t it? It was urm, the ones who won the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes etc already – no big surprises. Plus it was like one indie film competing with another. So it wasn’t like there was any excitement from the fact that a low budget indie flick was going to trump some blockbuster film. The race was just too even to be interesting. So vanilla. I loved Eddie Redmayne’s performance but was not excited about what I’ve seen of Julianne Moore’s. Plus everyone seemed to be playing someone with a serious illness – which I think is ok if the role has a broader scope than that i.e. it’s not just about the illness, but I think otherwise it’s just a bit dull. Also Boyhood, so it’s USP was that it was filmed over 12 years as the actors themselves aged, well, ok but has anyone seen the 7 up, 14 up, 21up, 28up etc documentary series in the UK? It basically follows people throughout their life, making a new documentary about the contributors every seven years. Now that is a really interesting project because it is the only documentary series I have ever seen to have followed people throughout their lives. But I don’t understand why I should care that a film was made over real time when they are just actors that are playing a part that is not real – or am I missing something? It just doesn’t thrill me really. Birdman I have not seen but I feel equally as uninterested by it. It really is saying something when you’re watching an Oscars night and you’re secretly hoping that Angelina Jolie might arrive and whip out a breast or something – right?

You American folks are missing a whole lot of drama at The Brits in the UK. Madonna being dragged off the stage by her cape and falling over backwards down three steps and nearly all of Kanye West’s song being muted due to his over-use of swear words. Truly a memorable night’s celebration of all that is great and good about British music. Total classic! :-)

There is a big, big blind item on AGC MAIN PAGE BLIND ITEMS. It is in larger type. A lot of information. It concerns the sex trade, and supposedly many big celeb names are involved.
I can’t make head nor tails out of these items. It’s easy for most readers, however.
I did read some vaguely familiar stuff in there. Sex trafficking. Wasn’t there hints about that on this site, several years ago? Apparently, these opportunities afford those big name celebs to continue living the life to which they’ve become accustomed.

An example of my head-scratching reaction: An academy award winner, who was very popular in the ’70s, and highly regarded, is one who lives off the big money the super-rich men lavish on famous celebs they prefer.

And I did read something about what goes on at Cannes in some other sites.

Read in the morning news, that the Academy of Motion Pictures is seriously considering cutting the Best Picture nominee list back to 5. I don’t understand this, as being constructive. When they had 5 nominees, they nominated some turkeys, imho. And some even won! And even with the 8 they had, they still left a number of more deserving fare without a nomination.
Same with actors. There were at least 10 deserving performances that were snubbed. Meryl Streep can always count on a nomination, even if the voters don’t see her work.

Again, the Academy’s membership comprises of:

    94% WHITES
    77% MALE
    62 yrs. =
    MEDIAN AGE
So in a way, it makes sense, given who and what were nominated.

    OT;
Christopher Plummer, now in his early 80s, is finally receiving a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was happily surprised at the recent performance of Lady GaGa, at the Oscars.
He says that the reports that he hated “The Sound of Music” was untrue. He wasn’t happy with the depth of his role, is what. He was highly trained and was more familiar with Shakespearean characters; thus, it wasn’t as challenging as he would have liked. But he loved the results of the movie, and that new generations are loving it as well.

Note: When he was a new actor, his mother predicted that only when he got to be old, would he receive the recognition he deserved. He particularly remember this.

There are 1, 646 billionaires in the world.
The 10 richest people on earth, are:

Software giant, Bill Gates with $76B
Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helu, (telecom) $72B
Spain’s Amancio Ortega, (fashion retail), $64B
    Warren Buffett, $58B
    Larry Ellison, (Oracle), $48B
Koch brothers businessmen Charles & David, $40 B. EACH!
    Sheldon Adelson, (Casinos) with $38B
    Christy Walton, (WalMart) $36B
    Jim Walton, (WalMart) $34B

In 2010, just 388 of the billionaires had the same amount of wealth as the bottom 50% – 3.4 billion people – of the world’s population.

By next year, the richest 1 percent will own MORE than 50% of the world’s current population of 7 billion!

Still, wealthy people and rich corporations continue to lobby their governments for lower taxes.

I did check in the last few minutes to see if Best Actor would go to Michael Keaton or Eddie Redmayne.

The whole thing is basically a popularity contest. That’s why Clint Eastwood is a perennial. And why Meryl Streep gets nominations even if the voters don’t see her movies.

Just like there is tampering with the presidential voting, there is tampering with the Oscar votes. The late columnist, James Bacon wrote several books, and in one of them he described how he was given an Oscar voter’s ballot to fill, because the voter didn’t want to be bothered. He said this was a common practice. He described how he mulled over the Best Actress nominees. Just for a lark, he checked off Barbra Streisand’s name.
Also, back then, there was a highly influential movie columnist, who had a daily column in The Hollywood Citizen-News. He was very much into the Oscars. He had a history of campaigning for his favorites. He also had a Readers Column. He publicized the Oscars in his column, during the pre-voting, and voting period. He published many letters, daily, with readers (paid?) lauding Barbra Streisand.
Then too, the academy bent the rules so Barbra Streisand could vote for herself.
The newspaper had other columnists. Sheilah Graham was another prominent writer. She saw what Skolsky was doing. So she went on a campaign for Katharine Hepburn.
Result: A tie that many movie buffs said wasn’t.

More evidence of tampering with the Oscar voting results. In her auto-biography, actress Maureen O’Hara describes how she was among the 5 Best Actress nominees, for “The Quiet Man”. (1951)
The reason she knew was because her friend, Anne Baxter, the actress was a member of the Academy committee, and was privy to the voting results. She called Miss O’Hara, and excitingly told her that she was a Best Actress nominee. But when the official result were announced, her name was absent from the list.
The book describes how director, John Ford was a monster to work with; and he dominated her with a love/hate relationship.
Anne Baxter told Maureen that she had genuinely been nominated. The book leads us to the conclusion that it was John Ford who had the power to accomplish that dirty deed.

Not in the same league of tampering, but years ago when I was in college, I was interested enough to tape the nominations. Taped it because 5:30 a.m. was way too early to arise.
Still have the tape. And, Paul Scofield’s name was announced as one of the 5 nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. When the official news announced the nominees, Paul Scofield’s name was replaced by Armin Mueller-Stahl, for “Shine”. He did deserve it, however.

I wonder if that blind is true or made up. Not that I don’t believe they would engage in that kind of depraved activity but that site has always seemed brangie friendly and with that much blood you have to wonder how they could still be alive. However, they do both (all three, really, AJ, BBT, and BP) look like they’ve been infected with something. I often wonder who the people are that feed the gossip to these sites and what their motivations are. Maybe it was AJ who gave them the story to make BBT look bad after his comments about lusting after JA. AJ’s dropped out of sight lately so maybe she’s spending her time “faxing” fake stories to keep people talking about her. Such a strange lot they are.

I think you’re onto something Guest 2. All Angelina’s photos are staged carefully. Not wearing makeup and looking forlorn looks very contrived.

She wants our pity and wants to outdo Brad in the pity stakes because Brad is unable to hide his misery anymore. He ’s crying for help!!!

I feel sorry for Brad, women do this stuff well, ie, look sad and garner sympathy. I think he no longer cares that we the public discuss his unhappiness because he needs things to change now! That’s why he looks depressed when he’s photographed with her. With anyone else he looks content enough, not outrageously happy but ok. With Angelina, it’s glumville. And I can see why he has to do it. He’s up against a powerful foe.

Angelina’s big mistake is that she’s oversold herself. She’s like the “boy who cried wolf”. Increasingly people who comment on celebrity blogs are saying the same things. The humanitarism is fake and primarily for self promotion, the children are neglected and unhappy looking, Brad looks unhappy, the chicken pox was fake, she ’s a hypocrite. And on and on it goes. She’s losing the battle for our admiration so now she needs to battle for our sympathy.

What’s even more telling is that if her father doesn’t say nice stuff about her, he will never have the chance of seeing his grandchildren, such is the punishment she will inflict upon him.

Not being able to concentrate and do one thing well but run around like an attention deficit disordered person is what’s making her sick, plus whatever chemicals she needs to take to keep her energy “up”

Whatever the nature of her physical illness (I believe drugs are a part of it and I include brad in this), I think it’s getting more difficult for her to hide her mental illness. No sane person would do the outrageous things she’s done over the past year or two. I don’t now what brad’s deal is, he should leave if he’s so unhappy but I don’t see him doing that. I think they each live their separate lives while putting up a front for the public. Maybe that works for him but I do not feel sorry for him in any way.
