J’espère de tout mon coeur que les deux épais de TMEP qui se défendent de leur ignorance et manque de savoir-vivre se feront remettent le nez dans leur merde. Ils ne représentent pas les québécois, (je l’espère en tout cas); en même temps, il semble bien que leur émission fait figure de grand’ messe le dimanche soir; on verra: si Ian parvient à les faire mettre dehors, on aura fait là un grand pas en avant.
Et, Ben, je dois te dire que, Ian, à mon sens, ne se prend pas pour Mordecai Richler; il adopte un personnage, il fait du journalisme qui l’intéresse, (et ça intéresse beaucoup de monde– on ne grimpe pas la liste des best-sellers du NY Times en écrivant n’importe quoi), et il a le droit de le faire. J’m’en calisse s’il porte des lunettes ou des drapeaux: d’ailleurs j’ai vu lu là-dedans une tentative de se faire accepter, comme une salutation, et cela, EN DÉPIT du fait que selon le sondage du Journal de Montréal de 2007 les juifs sont en deuxième place lorsqu’on fait le décompte des victimes du racisme au Québec. Il n’est pas fou, Ian, il sait ce qu’il fait. Quand Céline Dion va chanter à Paris et qu’elle porte le chandail de l’équipe française du soccer, les Français sont bien contents. Mais parce que Ian est anglophone, on l’accuse de faire le clown et d’être condescendant. C’est un préjugé FLAGRANT. J’ai HONTE de vivre dans une province où les gens se disent racistes, comme si leur ressentiment souterrain, qui les habitent tellement que c’est presque aveuglant, comme si ce ressentiment était une assez bonne raison pour dire n’importe quoi à n’importe qui — en autant qu’eux, dans leur désir ignoble de baigner dans leur ancienne victimisation du 17e siècle, se remontent eux-mêmes à leurs yeux.
Je suis d’accord, des excuses de la part de Radio-Can et des deux imbéciles qui animent l’émission représenteraient aussi un grand pas en avant.

ReplyWith all due respect to Elizabeth, the sense of victimization is not a vestige from the 17th century. It is central to present-day French-Canadian culture. See how Quebec/Canada history continues to be taught to French-Canadian children. La Conquete is treated like the Naqba. Conscription, requiring Canadians to take up arms against Hitler, is seen as the great historical crime of the 20th century against French-Canadians.
French-Canadian nationalism of whatever stripe, be it seperatist or federalist, proceeds from the negative, from the chip on the shoulder, “they called us pea-soupers”, mentality. Never from the positive.
Why such hight rates of intolerance and racism in Quebec? Not because French-Canadians have been the victims. In fact, the opposite. How many minorities can claim that they have never been murdered for who they are? On this score, French-Candadians can probably claim the mantle of being the chosen people. However, ironically, maybe this also explains your treatment on TLMEP the other night, Ian.
Never having really sufferred the brunt of racism or intolerance, French-Canadian culture lacks the instinct of empathy, and never having really been marginalized (contrary to popular myth) French-Canadian culture does not foster the instinct to “think outside the box”.
Just have a look at the voting record of Quebec’s National Assembly. How many times do you hear of a unanmous resolution being passed by this august assembly, more often I will bet than any other legislature in the democratic world. Most recently or most notoriously, a unanimous resolution to keep a Roman-Catholic symbol of a half-naked man being tortured to death hanging over the speaker’s chair. But still insisting that Quebec is a secular society. Proposing to ban the niqab, and if the Parti French-Canadian had its way, the hijab and the kippa, as well. Go figure.
ReplyJ’ai vu l’entrevue et c’est vrai que les animateurs vont un peut loin. L’émissions aurai pu être édité pour limiter la moquerie. M. Halperin, des fois ces animateurs tous deux humoristes de formation, vont un peu fort, mais de décrier le racisme c’est d’aller trop loin. Les anglos sont très vite pour traiter les francophes de racisme car ça leurs sert pour cacher leur propre racisme. Je peut comprendre M. Halperin de se sentir humilier des excuses seraient de mises, pour ce qui est du montant d’argent M. Halperin ne mentionne pas s’il va donner à une oeuvre de charité. S’Il ne le fait pas le gens vont voir cela comme une autre occasion de faire de l’argent.

Je suis entièrement d’accord: alors qu’on a le front parfois de se comparer à l’Irlande du Nord, où une partie importante de la société sont tués par la British Constabulary et les “protestants”, TUÉS, dis-je, emprisonnés, bombardés, ici, au Québec, le problème de la mentalité de victime occupe une drôle de place. Je veux bien qu’il y ait des problèmes politiques à juste titre et qu’il y ait certainement des injustices (les autres provinces en ont leur part aussi), mais il est grand temps de surmonter cette peur de l’Autre et de nous dérober de notre adolescence cutlurelle collective.

Tu sembles être quelqu’un de tellement envieux pour les personnalités publiques qui réussissent que tu t’acharnes à tenter de les démolir. Que ce soit Jackson, Laliberté, Pitt/Jolie, Lepage/Turcotte, tu ressens tellement de jalousie à leur égard que tu t’acharnes à salir leur réputation (comme si ça pouvait rehausser ton image, à toi). Tu te nourris des «vidanges» des vedettes parce que tu n’en seras jamais une. Tu es le genre de type, envié par certains, mais ignoré par la majorité (heureusement). Es-tu heureux? Tu devrais te poser cette question. Quelqu’un qui prend le temps de s’acharner constamment sur les autres ne l’est certes pas. Quand tes derniers jours seront arrivés, il sera trop tard pour te dire que tu as passé toute ta vie dans la merde des autres au lieu de profiter de ta propre existence.

Ça fait du bien de lire des gens qui se respectent et qui respectent les autres.
Bien sûr que tous les Québécois ne sont pas comme ces gens. On peut le voir par tes mots et aussi par plusieurs commentaires laissés sur ce site. On réalise qu’en 2010, on a encore beaucoup de chemin à faire pour évoluer et sortir du pattern de la victimisation au Québec… Ironiquement, une attitude qu’ils reprochent très souvent aux minorités visibles qu’il devrait mieux que quiconque comprendre dans le Canada puisque le Québec étant lui-même dans une situation de minorité au Canada. Je suis pour l’harmonie entre Québécois, Canadiens anglais et immigrants. Je crois que ce qui s’est passé à Ian à “Tout Le Monde En Parle” peut être récupéré positivement en nous permettant de crever l’abcès de cette situation de racisme latent très présent dans notre société québécoise mais dont personne ne parle habituellement, tellement c’est ancré dans la mentalité de certaines personnes. Les propos racistes ou les commentaires ainsi que les blagues de la sorte qui dénigrent un groupe social, une race ou une personne dans son intégrité ne doivent plus être tolérés, dans les médias québécois et canadiens anglais, dans l’un comme dans l’autre. La justice et le respect doivent être les mêmes partout.
