    It’s too bad they have to do a press conference to shout out their assistance so the world knows all about it. There will be thousands of people who help Haiti but don’t put out a PR release about it. I imagine John Travolta will fly his own private plane down there with supplies just like he did for Katrina.

    A lot of people donated and don’t expect kudos or praise, they are the people I respect. Assisting and wanting praise loses something, just fake people trying to look good, they really cheapened themselves.

    Yes they donate……some of it. And they make sure everyone knows and knows how much. You don’t see Oprah advertising how much she gives. Ditto with other classy people. These two do it for the recognition, not because they give a care, because fewer and fewer people believe they do.

    To The Brand it’s just another photo op. Most Loons still deny that Jennifer Aniston has ever done charitable work in her life, yet she has been very active in humanitarian works for decades…..but without all the press and photos. Huge dif

    Oh yes, they are just so wonderful aren’t they. How generous of them to put out a statement – yes I’m sure the Haitians really really appreciate that!! Meanwhile, you’ve got Matt Damon who is currently over there in the trenches handing out food and supplies alongside Wyclef – but hmmmmm, did he put out a PR release saying Im going over there to help? Hell No! He just did it, he flew there quietly without any fanfare. I am sooooo sick of these two, I don’t know if I can even talk about them anymore, its just too upsetting on so many levels.

    Here’s how you can help, but please don’t put out a press release if you do! LOL

    Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit http://www.Yele.org and click on DONATE

    This is the reason why I can’t stand them. It is evident that their charity “work” is a cleverly placed veil to hide their past/current indiscretions. So many people are contributing to the efforts in Haiti and not publicizing it. I understand if they put out a statement that encouraged others to help but why boast that you gave 1 million dollars? 1 million dollars to who, where is it going, to a charity?…then most of it will probably end up going to the CEO like most charities. Why not dedicate some real honest time and help those people. If I had the fortune that they did I would not only give money but I would give time and real assistance. It’s not hard to write a check – the people (celebrities) that really care are going to be doing much more than that.

    And by no means am I bashing people who donate their hard earned money to charities – I think it’s a great thing. What bothers me is that they have millions upon millions of dollars and claim to be “saints” and “humanitarians” yet all they do is write a check for a fraction of what they get paid for one movie? Come on – I don’t know how people don’t see right through them.

    And if they did go to Haiti which I highly doubt, they would have a camera crew documenting their every move, then People would pay them 1 million for the photos and voila they break even on their oh so generous donation!

    Ah yes, I hope it helps those of us who don’t know what to do, who don’t have the money or the resources to donate a lot, but I’d say one missed trip to a fast food joint this week would pay for a 5 dollar donation! Totally agree about Matt D

    If they truly cared about Haiti, why haven’t they done anything for that country since 2006, and when they were on their Lets do all this aid PR, “to cover up the fact that we had an affair, and got pregnant BEFORE the divorce”, world tour 2006 (at that time their careers depended on the positive PR). People were STILL starving in that country, eating mud-pies to survive, before the earthquake.

    Oh well the tallying of the remaining millions from the twin’s pictures is now only 5 million dollars..left. They gave 8 million dollars, out of that 14, now 1 million, so hey, that got 5 million dollars to play around w/ until the next catastrophe hits ..and the BRAND WILL BE THERE TO SAVE THE DAY!

    It’s just bad luck to them that an earthquake shook Haiti to remind folks that they dropped Haiti after their PR stunt. Poor Brangie – don’t we all feel so sorry for them….lol

    Yes if I was of a religious bent I would say that Brangelina’s exploitation of refugees and mass disasters for press is something that they will go to hell for, donation or no donation. That and the exploitation of orphan children too. If there was such a thing as an entity who judged you on your deeds in this life before you moved on to the next, I would place a bet that this is something that would not be forgiven, no way. There are a lot of Somalian refugees in my area of London, and in my current job I am meeting some of them and finding out a lot about their lives and how very hard life still is for them. These are the people that two over-paid, over-exposed, vain, selfish, spoilt and unbelievably wealthy individuals are exploiting to promote themselves and their very flimsy, superficial little HW careers. There are no words to describe how much these two disgust me. No-one who cares about people in a genuine way would seek to benefit in any way themselves from helping them in their time of desperate need. There aren’t words to describe how wrong this is, but perhaps there will be someone who can convey this to them if not in this life, then perhaps the next.

    Keane, although I know we haven”t gotten on well in the past, I have to totally say you are dead on in this post! These two famewhores make me SICK! What kind of perverse person uses the level of extreme devastaion in Haiti as a PR stunt to self-promote their “generosity”??? These fools will have reaped plenty of (well deserved) bad karma when the time comes…actually, I think it is closer than they think. @Keane Cyber Queen Supreme:

    If any of you would like to donate even a little (or a lot), I would suggest checking out a few of the following organizations listed here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20100113/cm_huffpost/421014

    The following I copied and pasted from another website and it questions the ultimate legitimacy and professionalism of Yele Haiti org – but not necessarily the heart or intent (and at this time funds need to go directly to relief and not for paying back taxes …..

    1.) Yele Haiti (Wyclef Jean Foundation)

    Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean’s charity aims to address educational, environmental and emergency-relief issues in his native Haiti. It has a slick Web site and financial support from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie but has not filed a US tax form since 2000. An insider at the charity told The Post that where the money goes in Haiti is a mystery, or if part of the haul went to purchase a television station in Port-au-Prince. Charity President Hugh Locke said, “We are in arrears in our filing.” He said that large donations go directly to projects in Haiti, where the organization is registered as a charity. He said the missing IRS documents would be filed by the end of the year. The forms are required to allow them to receive donations that can be tax deductible and to avoid paying taxes on their donations. The charity also has not completed the required New York state registration, according to Attorney General’s Office records. Meanwhile, Jean owes the state of New Jersey $183,172 in personal income tax, a sum Jean’s spokesman said last month the singer was in the process of paying.

    Y’all are unbelievably petty and mean. So what if this is being publicized? At least they did something-one million somethings. Pitt and Jolie have supported Doctors without Borders for at least five years. Instead of bitching about them, why don’t you all do something and donate to an organization that meets your exacting standards. I don’t care if you hate them, the money that goes to the Doctors without Borders will help the people devastated by the quake and that is what is important.

    When any celebrity, INCLUDING Brangelina have to announce to the world, how much they have given, the story then becomes about THEM, instead of about the catastrophe, or the people that need help. They announced it even before the earth stopped shaking because THEY wanted to be the FIRST celebrity out of the gate to do so!

    How much publicity has Brangelina gotten over this? Every print and tv media have been all over this story. Again, it’s PR for their BRAND.
    They could of just stated that “we are donating to Drs. Without Borders, and urge everyone to be able to give what they can to this organization OR another organization of their choice, but to GIVE”.

    Nope they had to put a $ sign on their contribution.

    There are MANY celebrities that are giving, but they aren’t releasing a presser on exactly how much they are donating. More so, that the AMERICAN people are giving, even in these tough times. They deserve the kudo’s. I heard the latest numbers was 3 million dollars had been collected so far, for that TEXT of 10.00 a piece contribution.

    @StatingMyOpinion:
    Exactly, the earthquake aside, the people die daily from water-born illnesses, malnutrition, aids, rank 187th in the world for infant mortality, etc. etc. These people were already in a really bad way without the added horror of an earthquake. As you so correctly ask…where were the dynamic duo in the intervening years? MIA, completely MIA. It served their purposes to trot out the fauxmanitarian schtick to distract from their own issues. Then……a big fat nothing.

    @troi:
    I echo what Keane said, “how do you know we haven’t?” I dare say that most of us have, to the Haiti effort and to many others, without the influence of celebrities who are in no way experts in these matters and are often influenced themselves by friendships and/or self promotion. Read, listen to the news from trusted sources, do a little research like Sela, and decide for yourselves. I also think StatingMyOpinion is completely correct in her/his assessment of Brangelina in this matter.

    Sandra Bullock gives $1 million to Haiti Relief. You don’t see her doing a PR to announce this. Thanks, Sandra, you’re the best! I hope you beat her ass, if you know what I mean and win an Oscar. Hey, you already got the CC, probably will win a Globe too.

    When were the Jolie-Pitts on TV announcing their donation? I heard cable anchors reporters it, but they didn’t show a sound bite from any press conference or at least a picture of the Jolie-Pitts at a press conference. What channel was the press conference on? What newspaper had a picture of the Jolie-Pitts holding a press conference about their donation? It’s probably more likely that the ever persistent press found out about the donation in the usual manner … on their own.

    I don’t see you folks complaining about Sandra Bullock donating one million dollars or Gisele Buncheon donating 1.5 million dollars or Madonna and her paltry $250k. The JP’s didn’t do a press conference, didn’t do much of anything except state they donated one million dollars just like Bullock did and Buncheon did. But, oh wait, they are the JP’s and can do nothing right. If you’re going to slam them for donating and the press picking it up via whatever means, then slam Bullock, Buncheon and the rest that have donated who also issued press releases. Oh, and let’s also slam Brad Pitt’s Not on Our Watch organization which he founded with Clooney, Damon, Cheadle and Weintraub–they also gave a million.
