IUC World Exclusive: Kurt Cobain’s daughter may sue her mother Courtney Love for fraud

Posted on December 16th, 2009 by HisHighness in IUC:Entertainment, IUC:Exclusive

courtney_frances_lml1The news that Courtney Love has lost legal custody of Frances Bean Cobain, the 17-year-old daughter of Kurt Cobain, has prompted considerable puzzlement from those unfamiliar with the continuing saga.

But, following a months long investigation, I have learned that the move was taken to enable Kurt’s mother and sister to possibly sue Courtney on behalf of her daughter to recover tens of millions of dollars they believe she may have appropriated from Frances Bean’s trust fund.

When Cobain was found dead in a room above his garage in April, 1994, he was in the process of divorcing Love and had taken steps to remove her from his will, according to tapes and documents I obtained while writing my 1998 book, Who Killed Kurt Cobain?, including a taped conversation with Courtney’s own lawyer, who revealed to a Beverly Hills private investigator on tape that Kurt was in the process of leaving Courtney and who believed that the so-called suicide note was “forged or traced.” But at the time of the death, Cobain had not yet signed his new will, resulting in Courtney and Frances Bean inheriting equal shares of his estate, potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars in future music royalties.

Because Frances Bean was less than two years old at the time of her father’s death, Courtney retained control of her daughter’s share of the royalties until she reached the age of majority. Over the years, however, Courtney frequently “borrowed” from her daughter’s share of the estate to finance her lavish lifestyle, which at times has also included significant expenditures on drugs.

In recent years, however, Courtney herself revealed that tens of millions of dollars have mysteriously “disappeared” from her daughter’s funds, blaming it on unnamed people who used Kurt’s social security number to fraudulently buy properties all over the world. In long, rambling, late night rants on twitter and various online forums, Courtney has blamed these people from robbing her daughter’s future. She once claimed that she was down to her last 120 dollars and facing eviction and that she had hired investigators to track down the missing funds.

But Kurt’s mother, Wendy O’Connor and his sister, Kimberley Cobain, weren’t buying it. They long suspected that Courtney herself had misused the money and were determined to get to the bottom of it. Yet they were powerless to pursue their suspicions as long as Courtney retained legal guardianship over Frances Bean and her trust fund. Their recent move to strip Courtney of trusteeship was taken to enable them to pursue the matter in court and undertake their own audit of the fund. If, as they suspect, Courtney was involved in siphoning off monies, they can pursue civil or criminal charges during the temporary guardianship they have been granted over Frances’s affairs. The move, however, does not give either Wendy or Kimberley access to Frances Bean’s funds, guaranteeing that they can’t enrich themselves during the process. Whether they have proof of any financial shenanigans remains to be seen. Others have speculated that the reason for the loss of guardianship is that Courtney has suffered another drug relapse, which her lawyers have vehemently denied, claiming that she has been clean for years.

The next step, I have learned, is that Frances Bean will file for “emancipation,” permanently freeing herself from her mother’s control.

In the wake of the court ruling, Courtney took to Facebook to post a vicious attack on Frances Bean for siding with her grandmother. “I hate to sound cold but any kid of mine who pulls this shit has lost her position… she was deceptive, she lied and she’s lying to herself….My daughter is not always honest.”
Stay tuned for the fireworks. This could get interesting.

Oh God, that is really really BAD! I knew she was living beyond her means, and that it had to be Cobains money obviously, but I didn’t know that it was all the Beans money!! Who were the men in suits that allowed her to do this? Shady shady! There was a time when Courtney was acting in good parts, looked fabulous on the red carpet and then, the downward spiral again. I hate the attack on her own daughter, she is a sicko!!

One fears for Frances Bean that the money will never turn up, but fears even more that she won’t get away from Courtney (who needs an intervention, or perhaps Cesar Milan, to calm her down). The accountants who get stuck interviewing Courtney about her expenses are in for quite an experience I’m sure, as they plumb whatever brain cells she has left for details about where the money went, e.g. “Ms. Love, you indicate here you spent $75,000 on a ‘life-size authentic yeti statue’, which you then paid $4,000 to have submerged in the Dead Sea?”.

And an honorary Michael Lohan Parenting Award to Courtney for attacking her child online (prize will be awarded by Alec Baldwin). She can put it on the mantle next to her David Hasselhoff Award for Inebriated Parenting. Run Frances Bean, run! Get away, get your money, then change your name and hide so she can’t find you!

This is just awful, that poor girl. And can I just ask what on earth the trustees of the trust fund have been doing all this time? Isn’t the whole point of setting up a trust fund that the money is protected by legal means and overseen by a group of responsible individuals AKA NOT Courtney Love or her drug-addled friends. Who was in charge of this trust fund, surely it cannot be just her or that would defeat the object of it? Why weren’t these people doing what they were supposed to do? Was she paying them off/ cutting them a slice too? Either way it is another epic failure from the stable of legal and financial regulation which brought to us: enron and the credit crunch. Great news!

What a pathetic example of motherhood! You don’t trash your child online like that! And yes, I think Courtney did dip heavily into Bean’s estate more for her drug habit than her lifestyle because obviously this woman has NO style at all! Hopefully the aunt and grandmother will be able to help Bean have a chance at a decent life now. How rough, the little girl who had everything and yet nothing.

Wow. Read through the investigation of the California Medical Board of a doctor who was (allegedly) giving Courtney Love drugs. Not only is the variety of drugs amazing (Vicodin, Xanax, Demerol), so are the costs. On her first visit with him, he gives her Vicodin for a bee sting, and charges her $1,000 . . . and it gets worse from there on . . !

If it was genuine it would be being reported on TMZ as the ambulance rolled up to the house, not in a pre-arranged, premeditated artile in the NE. Shame on you Trevor and Geyer, shame on you! When are you going to accept that you cannot use this doll to futher your own political/financial/showbusiness ambitions any more, she is worn out and nearly broken. Time to move on to your next victim. Not that I think Angelina was ever anything but fully complicit in this whole sorry, sordid little charade.

Who was it who recently said that they feared Angelina would end up badly? Narcissists , when they have no where left to find their due adoration, have nothing left to live for. I”m betting on a major drug overdose, perhaps not intentional, but the story fit perfectly along the lines of her ploy to keep/get BBT also. Contrary to what we’ve read, I do not believe Angie is of a very high I.Q., but I do believe Trevor is.

She uses suicide to show off the depths of her love and dependence on Brad – again, this would not be the kind of thing most people would want the world to know. It makes her look pathetic, needy, crazy…it doesn’t make me feel sorry for her, it makes me think Thank God Im not Brad and have to cope with this type of mind control. Its really sick.

“Dear Shutter Bug: What are other causes of large pupils?”

Here’s a page with links to 155 causes of dilated pupils (none of which I ever care to experience):
    http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/dilated_pupils/causes.htm

Now before everyone jumps to narcotic/cocaine/heroin effects due to Jolie’s past admissions of drug abuse, let’s all be fair and consider other causes. For example, she could have just had a really bad meal consisting of far too much poorly prepared tapioca, lima beans, sardines, Irish potatoes, and balsam pears, which are all on the list (rich and famous people eat lima beans, right?). Or, swept up in the season, perhaps she ate too many Christmas Cherries (what are those, anyway?).

I’m going to right away send AJ the half of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I didn’t eat at lunch, and a bag of Doritos I discovered last month in the trunk of my car, so that she can avoid these foods which are almost certainly the cause of her pupil dilation.

Jennifer Jones, 90, passed away on Thursday, of natural causes.
I love those old movies and she is very beautiful and her voice is very distinguished. Her versatility is there for all to see. She not only portrayed saints, but also sinners. She was very, very good as a half Native American opposite a young buck, Gregory Peck, in “A Place in the Sun”
But from what I gathered, her husband, David Selznick held her back somewhat.

Ok I just read excerpts from that NE suicide story and can’t really believe what I’m reading. It is an obviously fake story leaked by her PR team, and basically says Angie fears her suicidal tendencies will return as Brad has to leave her on her poor little ownsome while he makes a film. Poor old angie hey how will she cope? So as expected they are basically exploiting one of the worst things that can and frequently does happen to families in the real world to try to make us feel sorry for her. (Very much like her exploitation of refugees, vulnerable orphans and her own children). When I thought things couldn’t get any more disgusting though I was amazed to see that poor Angie now has “genealogical fears” which celebitchy thinks may refer to her inheriting a tendency for ovarian cancer from her mother. As a person who has lost several people close to them through cancer and has another undergoing treatment for this illness, can I say how frankly appalled I am at this latest PR line? When you think they couldn’t stoop any lower there they go again. Is there nothing these people won’t say or do to hold on to their dollars? Truly disgusting.

Seems strange to be watching black and white (I refuse to buy the prostituted remake with fake colors added) films on a 50″ High Def television, but I love to sit with a hot cup of tea, a warm wrap around me and the oldies but very goodies on. Angie has played the “genealogical fears” trick for ages; in fact she claimed that to be the reason she would never bear a biological child, her fear of passing this on. We all saw how well she protected any unborn bios from such a risk, so I don’t believe she really cares what would happen to any other as long as she gets what she wants. @Capri:

Nah, it portrays her as the victim, a game her people have been playing on her behalf for a long ass time now, (the “poor Angie” news I call it). Ultimately they are trying to make her appeal to women, her ho act has the male market pretty sewn up so that aspect is covered, it’s just that pesky likability factor to women that she struggles with. They used the “all I was was a shoulder to cry on because his selfish bitch of a wife had not been successful in producing a child for him” when she hooked up with Brad, they are playing the “poor little victim Angie” card on the way out. Although this one it has to be said is proving a little more difficult so they are throwing every trick in the book at it: her mother, Brad is a drinker and puffer and Angie hates drugs(!), it’s all the evil Jen’s fault, she is anorexic, she collapsed, she is suicidal, she fears she will develop cancer like her mother etc etc. It’s all about making her seem weak and vulnerable and not like the ruthless uber-bitch that she comes across as. It’s a pretty standard PR trick, they’ve been doing it with Katie Price in the UK since her split with Peter Andre, but it’s been so obvious it has been a bit of an epic failure. And it will be the same with Angelina I think for sure. I wish her PR people the best of British luck with it, but they don’t stand a hope in hell of succeeding at it, it is an impossible sell. I know this personality type well and am pretty sure that she will not be able to handle this and would prefer to go out with a bang, whether accidentally or on purpose. She could never admit to who she really is or show any failings whatsoever. Seen it all before, it won’t end well.

I doubt Jolie would allow anyone working for her interests to put out a story that made her sound so incompetent at a time when a custody battle could ensue. Especially when you consider Ian’s book being out there now; one would think she would try to refute the printed truths of Brangelina: The Untold Story, rather than put out press that confirms everything in the book.

I know! That little girl is treated like shit because…..? She had the gall to be born in a normal situation and wasn’t bought and has the sudacity to be blond and beautiful? Damn her (NOT!)!!!! You know I’ve heard that you should never even give a dog away for free because there is no value attached. Well it seems pretty obvious that the wee Shiloh gets treated holds no value for the JP’s. I’m sure they are all very lovely kids but the fact that she gets bruised and teeth knocked out is completely senseless. I wish someone would knock their damn teeth out and see how it is for them.
P.S. I’m sure they were flying somewhere to do something oh so important!

Where is daddy Voight when we need him? Britney’s dad manned up and took action, why can’t Voight do the same? Just who is everyone so afraid of? You could be right and maybe I am projecting too much of my own self into how AJ would prefer to portray herself. I just figure someone who’s career does better as an action heroine would rather not pull the pity card at this time. After the book release and subsequent articles about her manipulation of the press, someone like me would just feel that karma is good and that she is getting what she deserves. Plus I keep thinking that BP is doing damage control for his own career while trying to extract himself from the mess he got himself into without hearing too many ‘I told you so’s’

She is just portrayed as whatever it is most useful to portray her as at any given time. You know: sexy, gothic, passionate. dangerous, edgy, cool, earnest, intelligent, serious, sincere, caring, a humanitarian, an earth mother, a seriosu actress, noble and aloof, cool and proud, desperate and sad and the victim – none of them have any bearing on who she actually is. I think the truth about Angelina, like so many – well I would say all to be honest -celebs is rather more prosaic than she or they would like us to think: they are exactly like you and I, exactly. No more interesting, no more exciting, no more special. Often they are better looking than your average joe but that doesn’t mean to say you won’t see a hundred people as good or better looking than them on a quick stroll down Oxford Street. Oh and they are generally very wealthy and have a very easy life because they get paid a ridiculous amount to do very little: say £20,000 for a trendy but pretty low level TV presenter to present an award at some awards show for example. More than his agent made in a year at the time! Truth is with Angelina Jolie, like the rest of them, is that she really is no more special or interesting than you or I. In fact if you look back over some of her earlier interviews (the premiere of the first Tomb Raider film for one) and her earlier performances (Taking Lives for example), you will see that she is just a typical American female. She reminds me a lot of Shannon Docherty in fact. It is the press these people have spun around them that makes them seem different to anyone else, truth is they are just as humdrum as the rest of us. Angelina has played the part of herself very convincingly for a pretty long time now. It has definitely been her best role to date. Truth is, apart from the brother-loving madness, poor ickle Angelina Jolie Voight is just the same as you and I. Trufax!

I’m very into old movies and old movie trivia, so I follwed a bit of this by researching. They made a very handsome and talented couple, and their son Robert Walker Jr. followed in their footsteps although he never reached the degree of stardom his parents did. Nothing beats the old stars imo. Bette Davis, Susan Hayward, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Basil Rathbone….I could watch their work over and over.@mooki:

Yes, Pattyanne, the old glamourous stars of yesteryear. It’s relaxing entertainment. When I watch, I think of the clothes both sexes wear. It was durable cloth; the same with other clothing. The cars were not as collapsible as today. The people were more genteel.
The females hairstyles were a little “out there” but it was normal for the times.
I saw some movies from the ‘20.s and the ’30’s. Sometimes the clothing could be worn today and not seem too far out! Even some of the men’s hairstyles could be of today.
The ubiquitous staircase. The cavernous living quarters.
I’t’s fun! At the same time one doesn’t forget that there was segregation; medical miracles were far in the future; technology wasn’t even close to what is common today, etc!
And one didn’t even think of a star’s sexual orientation. Well, at least the ordinary moviegoer.

I take that back! Certain newpaper columnists were SOPP’s. (Sexual Orientation Police Persons). And the studio heads reacted. Thus, big stars of the early cinema had to get married. There was only one big, big star who rebelled; according to chroniclers of the period. His name was William Haines.
When studio tyrant, Louis B. Mayer gave him the order to ditch his lover, William Haines answered that he would if he, Mayer, would do the same with his wife.
Mayer had him blackballed. BUT, someone came to Haines’ rescue:
Joan Crawford. Ms. C had WH decorate her home, and soon other stars followed. Eventually, WH grew in stature in the world of interior decoration. He became a multi-millionaire. He even worked on the homes of bigger celebs than hwd stars.
And he and Jimmy, his lover, lived together until WH’s death. (Unfortunately, Jimmy, couldn’t bear to live without William Haines, and committed suicide.)

Even the stories of their lives are so dramatic and yet touching. Society had an entirely different set of rules back in the more genteel days on one hand, yet on the other, the rules were for some and not for all. I don’t try to get into the social aspects too much, it’s very disturbing especially after we’ve come this far, but I do love the 1930’s movies on TCM, and yes as you said, the cavernous rooms, the extravagant clothing, just the way they talked. I remember as a child my mother introducing me to Ginger Rogers with whom she worked later in Ms Roger’s career, and how impressed I was , even as a little child. Ms Rogers was so kind, gentle, and girlish in the way she spoke with me. She gave me her scarf when I admired it. Even at that early age I thought what class and style….what a lady!@Alif:

Inspirational, overcoming adversity to become successful in another profession on his own terms. He and Jimmy spending their whole lives together until parted by death and so sad that Jimmy was unable to survive without him. Thank you for telling their story.

Yes, all this brought about by the death of a big favorite, Jennifer Jones. And we all are aware of that old hwd superstition: Death comes in threes. So many, many times it did happen.
    Pattyanne;

Ginger Rogers was indeed a bright and talented star. Her mother was very religious. I read that somewhere. GR inspired a very young Doris Day to attempt a career in dancing. Then came the horrible car accident; and while DD was recuperating, she whiled away the boring period by practicing her singing voice. Well, we know it was a lucky break for herself and her fans.

And to actually see this legend in person. Very impressive!

I’ve gone back to even the teens in the twentieth century. There were charismatic stars then, as well. And the drug situation was every bit as bad. For a while, cocaine was legal in America.

    Capri;

You’re quite welcome! He stood out because he was loyal. He was a southerner. And you know how they’re noted for being gentlemen.

His screen persona was that of a brash but goodhearted soul who initially offends the girl, or the boss, or whomever; but by the last reel has learned his lesson. He had charisma to burn. And he was #1 at the boxoffice for a while.

The other big stars of his time submitted to their bosses’ orders.

My personal fave is sitting for a minute crying and then getting up and going on. When children are involved the ante is upped. With every move Angie shows how truly weak she is. She is not a strong independent woman. Not now not ever. This weakling has now added all these kids who depend on her. So unfair. Shiloh breaks my heart the most though. Being a bio, she is like the shit on Jolie’s shoes. As for the other bio’s…….I just don’t believe that whole fairy story.

They were stars when it actually meant something, forerunners of a mass produced actor factory today where anyone can become a celebrity for any reason not based upon talent, skill and/or drive. Look at OctoMom, and Jon Gosselin? I worry about the world we live in today, and will pass on to our children.@Alif:

My mother would have walked through fire for her, she called her a survivor who had more than paid her dues. Such admiration, and yet my mother only worked with her for a short period late in Ms.Rogers life. I know I will never forget her, and I don’t have many memories that go that far back, but she stands out.@Alif:

“Angelina decided about four months ago that she really wanted to try to get pregnant again,” revealed one insider.”

It’s obvious, if this story is true, that Angie believes becoming pregnant, or even simply setting the stage for a pregnancy announcement whether true or false, will gather sympath for her. With her mental illness, I’d not be surprised if a fake pregnancy didn’t end with an even faker miscarriage….a la Jennifer Aniston. In her psychopath mentality it would be a way to manipulate the public into sympathy for her rather than for Jen now that the truth about Brad and Angie cheating while Brad’s wife was mourning the loss of their second unborn baby.

Totally agree with you there Vitt, I’m a big advocate of that mentality. I’ve had more knocks and near knock-out punches in my life than the average middle to heavyweight boxer but I’ve survived them and come out fighting again. After all, what is the alternative other than killing oneself? When people say to me they don’t know how I got through the things that I’ve been through in my life I say to them well what would you suggest I did, kill myself? And they laugh as if they think what I’m saying is ridiculous which just goes to show how naive people can be to the suffering of others some times. There are many millions of people in the world who are trapped in terrible situations that they cannot escape from, whether that is through war, sickness, poverty or something else entirely. What do you do when you can’t change your circumstances? You have to choose whether to endure it or to end it – those are the only options. And so far in my life, despite the toughest of circumstances, I have always chosen to live. Life is a gift after all, you only get it once and it doesn’t last forever. We all need to make the most of every precious moment of it, no matter the odds. And I agree that a good cry often gets it our of your system and you feel better for it afterwards. Another good one which has got me through some very bad circumstances was to think: there is virtually always someone worse off than you. No matter how hard lfe is I still have a roof over my head, live in a place where I don’t fear for my life, I am not starving and there are support services out there to help me. Millions of people around the world do not have that luxury. So yes, Angelina, not too much sympathy from me here. She has never nor will ever know what it is like to worry about how she is going to keep a roof over her head or feed her kids. Apart from her own self-inflicted physical problems, she seems to be in an ok state of health. If the heat all gets too much she can simply take her children and go and live a completely private life in the exotic country of her choice. The problem for Angelina though is that would be the equivalent of death. She lives for the fame and she lives for the limelight, and I think the prospect of living without it will make her shrivel up and die. JMO

I think you’re also right about living for the fame and that’s why she can’t take it out in the country in France for too long at once. It probably seems like such a romantic and wonderful idea, but once she gets out there she feels suck with no stimulus and adoration. The tiny bit of time that they were there this past summer or whenever it was, there were so many photo ops. Many others in a similar situation live there and you never see that rubbish. Johnny Depp comes to mind for one.

AJ doesn’t seem to realize the difference between giving birth and being a mother when it comes to promoting her ‘maternal’ image. She may think this makes her ’simpatico’ with all the moms of the world, but no one believes she puts actual time into raising her kids – she has an army of nannies to take care of that. A single mom struggling to feed her kids is not going to identify with her at any level! Nor is a financially secure married mom, nor any other form of mom that isn’t rich enough for a comparable lifestyle and married to a movie star. Cranking out another baby for a year’s worth of publicity, that you will then turn over to your own special privatized semi-orphanage, is creepy. So cut it out!

I think they know that another supposed bio baby or an adoption would attract more negative publicity than good as who in their right mind accumulates that many children in so many years, especially when mom and dad spend most of their time making movies and doing “humanitarian activities”. I think that is a hand they have majorly overplayed PR wise, having/acquiring too many children far too soon. They would have been much better off if they had spread them out a bit or just paced themselves a bit more. But my thinking is that each adoption/reproduction was designed to counter or deflect from something negative which was happening for them PR-wise. I think those poor little mites were all just pawns in their crazy PR game, Maddox included, and now they are stuck in this miserable situation with a woman who has clearly never been in possession of her marbles and a man who is more interested in preserving his public image than he is doing the right thing by them. But now at least I think public opinion will force them to stop acquiring any more, which I guess is some small consolation. I think they are just floating the pregnancy story to make it sound like they’re still together. They will never have another child, I would bet my house on it.

Having not seen any photographic evidence of the phenomena known as Brangelina in the last week or so I am wondering whether after her maniacal display at that do the other night her people may have decided to pull her from any immanent photo opps? I am wondering if that was the reason for the story about the whole Brangelina clan flying out to an unspecified location for the holidays recently accompanied by a shot of a plane with no visible Brangelina in it? You know, to explain why we won’t be seeing them esp. her for a while. I wonder if they are now seeking treatment for their product. After all, she isn’t going to sell too well if she behaves like that again is she? Plus I was also thinking about the try-to-get-sympathy-for-Angelina ploy and was wondering if her people realised that people simply will not buy this due to the aloof, cool and arrogant persona she presented in the media at the height of her fame? That snotty, contemptous, icy staring-down-her-nose at Ryan Seacrest with the curt response; the how-dare-you-question-my-greatness attitude delivered to journos at press conferences; the arrogant, know-it-all demeanour she bore in several interviews etc? Not too likable is our Ange, or at least she hasn’t been in a lot of the press she has done in the past few years. Bit late to undo it all now.

I seriously doubt there will be any as the famales grow into beautiful young ladies. It will kill narcissistic Angelina Jolie to grow old and homelier than she now is, while her daughters become rather gorgeous – especially Shiloh, the Blob as her mother likes to refer to this “over privledged” bio child. Pitty Angie never can feel true emotions for anyone else. Those children will grow up striving their entire lives to “earn” love from others….sad, sad, sad.@I’m on the bidet:

I did more than a little research on this case including three courthouses and more than twelve court documents to learn the truth.

You’ve got a few things wrong. They did not inherit fifty/fifty for example and Courtney has shared the role of co-trustee, not full trustee over her daughter’s share of the money. I hope you may read this article that shows why Courtney is not the most likely suspect for the disappearing funds — to the court anyway.
