IUC Exclusive: Michael J. Fox Keeps on Trying To Find Cure

Posted on September 25th, 2009 by HisHighness in IUC:Entertainment, IUC:Exclusive

muhammed_ali_michael_j_foxIt’s no wonder why this man was always well liked in Hollywood circles – Michael J. Fox is a man of his word. Almost a decade ago, he vowed to find a cure for a disease that has afflicted him for years, Parkinson’s. Now, there seems to be a ray of hope. If only more celebrities would give back the way Michael J. does, the world would be a better place. (National Post)

    Really! I hadn’t heard about a possible cure for Parkinsons. I’ll have to google that and read more about it. This is incredible news! Totally agree about Michael J. Fox. Celebs like MJF, Patrick Swayze, Christopher Reeves, Jenny McCarthy, Farrah Faucette, et al. … they really do make a difference in this world.

    @Tamara:
    No kidding, Tam. What is there NOT to love about someone like MJF? Talk about someone with a life purpose who has lived up to the challenge. What an awesome family he has. Of course, as you know, you don’t just GET an awesome family, you NURTURE it. This family has worked hard for what they have, and what they have is a lot of love and commitment. IMO, they have what life is all about! Now THIS is a role model for families!

    Off topic am just watching an interview with Shakira on TV. She was talking briefly about the work she does in Colombia setting up schools for children and the refugee crisis. Did you know Colombia has the second highest refugee population in the world next to the Sudan? I didn’t know that. Wonder if Angie Jo does? On the subject of which what a difference between Shakira’s charitable works and that of AJ. She was so lowkey and humble about it. And I’d never even heard about it before now. So it is clearly possible to do good works without shoving it down people’s throats and gaining a disproportionate amount of publicity for yourself for it. Angie Jo should take note. Smug self-satisfied do-gooders don’t sell well in times of eonomic recession I would say.

    Yes…the brand new treatment activates brain cells with flashes of lights….Called optogenetics, the technology relies on light-sensitive proteins that are normally produced by algae. This is a whole new approach of stimulating cells with light which shows great potential of a ‘ cure ‘ ….

    …should you ever see a 3 old missing a tooth …it is usually not from natural causes but from trauma …falls, accidental bumps, crashes (bikes, tables, paddles etc) or… from too much milk or sugar as in severe tooth decay … the only cure is parental supervised regular tooth cleaning and healthy food ….

    @Ms Agatha:Many moons ago I handled dental claims for children in a state program and once a month I would get the bills from one pediatric dentist who would be taking 2 year olds into surgery and putting stainless steel caps on all their baby teeth – they couldn’t just pull them. The mothers insisted on putting the babies to bed with koolaid filled bottles – called bottle caries – just rotted their baby teeth away.

    Keane Cyber Q:
    Unlike most on this blog, I admire AJ and her devotion to refugees. And yes she does know about the refugees in Columbia. She started working with them in 2002 and the visits are detailed in her book.
    Part of the reason she is high profile is that she is a United Nations High Commission Refugee Ambassador. The UN sends out press releases about everything she does. They also do that for the other ambassadors which include Armani as well as seven others who are prominent in other countries. AJ has done over 100 events since she joined the team. Most folks don’t last as long as she does, do two events a year that are primarily fund raisers. She has become much more than a goodwill ambassador as she goes back to the UN reports and makes recommendations. She also does many acts of kindness that are not reported. As does Kidman, and many many other actresses. I bet Angie is very supportive of Shakira as she is with wyclef jean who is friends with Shakira. Quite frankly, if you aren’t out there helping their causes, then why criticize AJ for what she brings to the table?
