ReplyGood Lord above, what a hideous story. This is one of those instances where I ask myself which is worse? A father who would do this to his own child, or a child who would do this to their own father. Heck … let’s just go all the way with this one. How could anyone treat anyone either way? Both instances are horrific. This is a story I will reserve judgment on as I am sure Mick Jagger will not take it lying down, so to speak. Truth or lie, all kinds of laws have been crossed here and I’ll have to wait to see what happens. I hate to see a victim not believed, but it because people lie in the first place that there is disbelief.

ReplyHm well there’s the Roman Polanski and Jack Nicholson connection. Jon Voight was a friend of Nicholson. John Phillips and Mick Jagger are linked. Bill Wyman married a girl at the age of 16 who he’d been dating since the age of 13. Then there was Elvis and Priscilla. People get away with things they wouldn’t otherwise get away with because they’re celebrities. That’s what I think. And from the recent cases of the girls who had been kept as sex slaves by their father or kidnapper for decades and produced children by them all I can say is it happens. People don’t want to believe this type of thing happens because it is too horrifying for words, but it clearly does.

ReplyRight, well, if you want to bring Polanski and Nicholson, Voight et al into the mix you have to put it in context. And lets not forget Manson. Did Mackenzie have an affair with him too?? At the time when all these guys were hanging out together it was in the 60’s and Mackenzie was safe at home back east with her Mom. Her Mom Susan was from a wealthy Viriginia family. Mackenzie lived with her and only visited John and Michelle. John was with Michelle and they were in California. Mackenzie is referring to a time much later when the Mamas and Papas were already broken up and John had descended his long spiral into hard drug abuse. She says the affair started in 1979 which would make her 20 years old!! This story really makes me angry. John Phillips had his demons but he was a brilliant musician, he paved the way for so many artists, so many songs that you will probably sing in your car today and not even know it was because of him that the song exists! People credit the Beatles with so much musical legacy, but in truth John was more infuential in the harmonies, arrangements and sound than the beatles were!! The Beach Boys wouldn’t even have their “sound” if it wasn’t for John. Grrrrrrrrrr!! I am so angry that this crack whore wrote this book just to support her habit!!!

ReplyTam, I think a lot of artists may be considered “whackjobs” by outsiders – Van Gogh anyone? This revelation is horrific and of course I don’t want it to be true, but I find it hard to imagine that this is the story she would choose just to get attention. Frankly, just saying that he is the first person who shot her up with drugs is attention getting on its own. As for the off and on during 10 years and it becoming consensual, I have read that an expert says that victims of incest often develop Stockholm Syndrome and are the most ardent supporters of the abusers. And it isn’t something that makes her look good and him bad, saying it became consensual until she had an abortion because she didn’t know if she was pregnant with her husband or father’s child is not a pretty picture.
I really think that when under the influence, many drug addicts will do things they wouldn’t do if they were sober. Lines getting blurred, that kind of thing. No, I do not have personal experience in this area.
I wish I had some healing words I could say to all victims of incest to bring them peace.

Yes, this subject is going to produce a lot of opinions, anger, disbelief, outrage and sympathy. It has already divided her own family. Her own stepmother is calling bull on this story so who knows? My opinion is not so much that it didn’t happen, but why would she write a book about it? I doubt it’s for healing purposes, but rather for the money. It’s a terrible subject and no one will ever know the truth, so people have to make up their own minds about it. I’ve made up mine, but I do respect the opinions of others because like I said none of us know the truth, and we never will.
I took umbrage at Ian calling John a whackjob, but then again, that’s his opinion, sounds to me like he believes the story…there will be lots of differing opinions on this before its swept under the carpet!

You know how a junkie will steal from anyone, including their own father to get their junk? Well, IMO she has stolen from her father from the grave, she has stolen his reputation, (I know, it was already in tatters, but not this bad!!) in order to make money, its not about healing IMO its about money to support her habit

What shocked me most was the manner in which MacKenzie devulged about Mick Jagger’s comment of sexual attraction for a 10 y/o girl, sort of tossed out there, as an aside, of no real importance in itself. Ewwwwwww @ Mick~! Lusting after any child is pediphelia imo. I do not expect Mick to make a statement about this revelation; it would benefit him more to simply ignore it, to discuss it would ignite a fire storm of accusation on both sides. If MacKenzie is telling the truth, i’m wondering why an “adult” (she claims to have been 18 when this started i believe) druggie or no, would put herself in the position to allow this to repeat, but to wholly and consensually engage in it for 10 years. Just heard an interview MacKenzie had on Good Morning America this morning, as shown on Entertainment Tonight…. Seems MacKenzie wished to clarify a statement she’d made on Oprah about the conscentual, 10 year incest (McKenzie says,) “”10 year affair” is not correct, it began years earlier with child molestation which escalated into panties at her ankles but no penetration, to full blown consentual sexual acts”. Making this a whole new ballgame.

Lol, okay, so we can agree to disagree on this. I keep thinking about the words of the song he wrote and dedicated to his then 14 y/o daughter , “High On Arrival”, to me that is an admission he not only knew she was a drug user at 14 y/o, but was in fact the one who got her onto drugs as she stated. Any father capable of making his daughter his drug-mate sure as h*ll would have no qualms about sleeping with her as well imo. Any qualms either of them might have had about this relationship would be muffled by the effect of the heavy drugs they were both using. BEing high, would take away any social or moral inhibitions either John or MacKenzie might have had. But i keep coming back to a father who teaches his minor daughter how to shoot up heroin. @Tamara:

On another topic – yes that means you Ange – I just came back from the store and happened to see the cover of the NE and had to express my utter OUTRAGE at what I saw. You have probably all seen this already so have absorbed it but I haven’t been paying much attention so Angelina’s PR so was totally gobsmacked. There she was on the cover of the NE taking up the whole page saying something to the effect of “Angie starving herself and blames Jen for it” with that pic of her in Africa where she deliberately wore the open top to show off her collarbones. Inside the story was from a “pal” i.e. her PR who said that she hasn’t been able to eat since her first row with Brad over Jen and she just can’t escape her image as there are photos of her wherever she goes! I just cannot believe someone could be so utterly immoral and callous as to exploit a trip designed to highlight the plight of refugees not only to try to gain public sympathy and to disguise the real reasons for her dramatic weight loss, but to actually blame it on the woman whose husband you swanned off with many years ago! I thought I’d heard it all from Angelina but this really took the cake for me. How does she sleep at night? Not only exploiting millions of impoverished people fleeing from war but trying to demonise the woman who you shamelessly stole a husband from by blaming your drug-related weight loss on? Could this woman be any more outrageous, any more callous, or any more shameless? I am floored by this one, I truly am. No amount of suffering she may or may not have experienced in her childhood excuses what she is doing as an adult, none at all. This woman is pure evil in my view.

Replyyes d, i had read that as well. She became adicted to the Rock & Roll lifestyle her father and Mick Jagger, and Morrison and others enjoyed and became a druggie while a very young child. I falut her parents in this. And her comment that her father not only knew ( dad wrote the lyrics High On Arrival about his then 14 y./o daughtrer) shooting her up for the first time which says to me that he condoned such destructive behavior, and encouraged it to the next level. So, if she had written this book only about dad shooting her up, would it then be acceptable to write a tell all? I don’t think so really. There are far too many “Tell All” books out there that say much worse than this one, in fact IAn has written several disclosing details celebs wish would stay in the closets. Helloooooo Togi. Did you see on the news that another Phillips family member has come forward (Bijou) to state that MacKenzie told her about this 10 years ago, while daddy John was alive. That makes two sisters MacKenzie confided in, wonder why neither of them went to Mom or Dad with it considering how horrendous the accusation? Pappa John Pillips was alive then.

Yeah … I just saw that a little bit ago. It’s not at all uncommon for siblings to stick together in “secret.” I am currently working on a case that is so unbelievably horrible that it puts this story in the minor leagues. Six kids, ranging from small to early teen. No details due to confidentiality. But I’ll tell you what … most kids don’t talk … and I’ll leave it at that.
Tam … it’s also not uncommon for the unaffected children to see an entirely different parent. My own mother and her older sibblings (11 kids in all), were terribly abused by my grandfather. Beaten and locked out of the house during the dead of winter in Iowa, while going out to use the outhouse. The older kids often didn’t have shoes to wear because their father didn’t want to waste the money. Yet the three “babies” of the family never experienced that. To them, everything seemed normal. Probably because my grandfather had literally THROWN the older kids out of the house when the reached the ripe old age of 12! In my line of work I find that the perpetrator typically has just one victim. And the victim, of course, typically remains quiet about it until it is forced out into the open.

It’s a tricky one. I personally cannot imagine why any woman would make up a story about her father abusing her and then having a ten year consensual incestuous relationship with him. Especially not the daughter of a very famous man. She must feel deeply ashamed and embarrassed about it I would imagine, for both herself and her father. And it is very possible for sexual abuse to occur in families without any of the other family members knowing about it, that is why abusers get away with it so often. Plus coming out with something like this could cause her to lose all of those family members who do not believe her or are angry with her for going public with it. I just can’t see how any cash she might make out of it would be worth the costs to her and her relationships with her family. I for one would not want to talk about something like this in public in a million years and can’t see how anyone would want to make it up. And as for her needing the money from book sales – wouldn’t she already have at least some cash from her father’s estate? I can’t imagine that the child of such a famous musician would be left completely pennliess.

Yeah I had an awful story on a show once about a woman who was born to be abused by her pimp father and prostitute mother. She was rented out to clients as a child and her father freely abused her. It was grim. There was another story about a girl who admitted to being abused by her parents and grandparents I think it was, they had group sex with her. It was truly disgusting. But she had the bravery to come out in public with it and her abusers were convicted and put in prison. Such grim stuff, but unfortunately I don’t think that it is that uncommon.

ReplyDid you ever hear about this story? It was very well-known in Europe. This girl was held prisoner by her abductor and abused by him in a basement for 8 years. Now there are allegations that her mother abused her as a child and organised the abduction as a means of covering up. Don’t know whether it’s true or not though. ReplyHad me thinking of how well the sex offenders are at covering their tracks and convincing people they associate with how decent they are….. Remembeer the 11 y/o girl, Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped in California 18 years ago? She bore her kidnapper/sexual abuser two children, was freely moving out in society, and yet made no effort to leave, or reach out. She raised her daughters in the back yard in tents, ate the slop he and his wife gave them…. Neighbors and persons who frequented their printing shop recalled talking with her, doing business with her, and no one noticed anything out of the norm….I still don’t know what finally made her reach out for help, but she did, and she hasn’t stopped talking about what was done to her, and her daughters yet….God bless that young woman, she lived through hell….

ReplyOne very good effect of MacKenzie’s book and her interviews with Oprah and Good Morning America….. WE ARE TALKING about it. Bringing this horrible sickness out into the open. If just discussing this issue, sharing our individual thoughts on this, no right or wrong ideas here, we all participate, it may help someone out there, some lost, small voice that wants to be heard. God willing many will be helped. I know too many young women who are forever psychologically scarred for life. I know one young woman who has night terrors, and her experience ended over 25 years ago. Maybe time won’t heal the horror, but a loving hand, and kind heart with understanding might. How ever the story with MacKenzie turns out; fact or fiction, it’s actually doing some good….
ReplyMichelle Phillips has a vested interest in saying bull because she was the stepmother at the time who could have put a stop to it. What would be more telling is how much contact she allowed Chynna to have with her father after they split up. I believe that Leigh Taylor Young seriously limited Patrick O’Neal’s contact with Ryan, which is probably why he had far fewer problems than the other 3 kids.
ReplyHmm, while I know the type of abuse she describes exists (more than we’d like to acknowledge), I’m having a difficult time believing Mackenzie Phillips. There seem to be strong motivations for her to lie – needing money, needing fame/attention, needing to rationalize her own life failures. And since drug addicts have no problem stealing money from their families, I have no doubt that stealing her father’s good name from him wouldn’t bother her much either. To believe her, I’d want to know (i.e., have documentation) that she’s been clean from drugs for at least a few years, and that she can prove some details about her claims. For example, she claims she went into hospital with a miscarriage resulting from the affair, let’s see some hospital records that prove that event (they won’t show he was the father, but its something). It may seem harsh to hold a victim to a standard of proof, but really to me she just lacks credibility.

ReplyI loved my dad very much, and may have wished to commemorate those feelings for him, BUT, No Way would i put Daddy on my Azz!! Too kinkey and damning imo. How many of his daughters did he molest i wonder?
@I’m on the bidet:The only reason I’m inclined to believe is that her sisters aren’t calling her a liar, particularly Chynna. Which means they think their father could or would do something like that – or he molested them as well and they don’t want to admit it publicly.

ReplyI would have to agree with that. To put this information out now, after her father’s death and risk having her siblings not stand by her would be foolish. It makes me wonder as well if they too were abused. I can’t honestly understand why she would want to share this with the world, I would think this would be something she would want to keep very private and work on in counseling, unless she feels extreme guilt herself and feels the need to confess. If it indeed did start with her as a child she has carried this a very long time privately. Still, now where she goes, people will think “she had sex with her father” and they will forget that at ten years old he started it. That is not a stigma I would attach to myself for any amount of money, ever. Some will never believe she was a victim, so to write a book for the small amount she will reap, would that be worth it? This will follow her for the rest of her life. She would have done better to get herself together and gotten a small part in a movie. She is not going to make millions off this book, after all, it is not Harry Potter. How many here are rushing out to buy it?

ReplyDear god, that Ange takes some beating. The next thing will be she can’t eat as she knows people go without food and throw a big pity party for herself for being so senstitive. I’ve always hated her but as I know have personal experience of being cheated on coudld cheerfully stab her and not lose a night’s sleep.
As for the man story here every post makes me change my view so I’ll vote- bloody awful and we will never know the truth.

ReplyFrom what I recall, Chyna Phillips said basically that she found out when one day Mackenzie called her up and told about the affair (and doesn’t ‘affair’ sound too polite a term for this), so I don’t know as of yet that she has knowledge of this independent of Mackenzie (and if she or anyone else did know, why the heck didn’t they do something about it). I still just have a feeling we’ll see Mackenzie on the Oprah show again in a few years or less, saying she did it all to feed a furious drug habit.
