ReplyPersonally, I don’t think Lilo should take advice from the internet as to whether she (or anyone) should have an abortion. If I wanted to do that to her (or anyone for that matter) I would get a placard, camp out outside an abortion clinic and shout at young girls as they passed by.
Honestly, it’s her decision and a tremendously difficult and personal one. The complexities involved, the moral questions and implications, the personal impacts etc are beyond my ken and, as far as I’m concerned, the best person to make that decision is the one who is pregnant.
This posting from IUC, to me, is past the line. Reporting that Lilo is preggers is arguably fair play gossip but voting on whether to keep a baby is, IMO, irresponsible and sensational.
Having said this, I will add that if Lilo is pregnant she should stop doing drugs and alcohol and smoking for that matter.

I know it’s been said…but I guess I feel the need…if she plans on having this baby, I hope she grows up pronto and quits the drinking, drugging, smoking & unhealthy behavior. If she is capable of doing so. Having a baby may make her grow up….but I have my doubts. It is possible – but she doesn’t have good role models and she is very, very, messed up. She’s a trainwreck, dangerously volatile–god knows what she would do to a poor baby (whose father, if this story is true, she is not even sure of). I’m very pro-choice and in this instance, I think Lindsay is doing the right thing getting an abortion. She is not in the right state to have a baby. This will NOT make things better for her but worsen it. I had an abortion when I was around Lindsay’s age (and I was not exactly stable but floundering around). It saved my life. I got on with my life, turned it around and ended up having a career and a child WHEN I was ready to be a parent. Lindsay should do the same.

ReplyI really believe that when a person or situation is unstable a baby rarely fixes it….people try all the time. But it usually just ends up bad for the child (unless it’s adopted). This is not nice. People should not have babies to fix their own problems. If I had a pound for every friend I had whose life had been fucked up in a serious way by the irresponsibility or issues of the parents I would be a wealthy woman. By the same token, abortion is not a great option, it can do lasting damage to the mother and she may never be able to have children of her own in the future. I think Lindsay has a lot of her own issues she needs to sort out before she takes on the responsibility of being soley responsible for the life and happiness of another human being. really new to computers. My educational background is similar to Keane’s, so I really empathized hearing him describe the lifeof a Literature major. I had to be really stupid and take Comparative Lit, Lang. and Hist.:Latin, English,French, Spanish, with a smattering of Portuguese(oil and gas brat – live in Brazil for 2+ yrs. as a kid). Theprogram nearly kicked my fat ***, and to make matters even more fun, I was on a full 4 year scholarship and worked full time. Looking back, I still don’t know how I did it. I taught as a TA at university 1 semester, and never worked in my field again. Finished up in 1971, so it has been 38 years. Hope the detective skills come back, but I am doubtless very rusty. We shall see!
Anyway, I need one favor, please, before beginning. Does anyone remember a poster from Norway a while back, and if you do, can you help me find the thread?

She’s a failed rehabber who was in an unhealthy codependent relationship and was seen hounding restaurant staff about her ex only a few days ago.
