IUC Exclusive: Simon & Schuster Gets Major Egg On Its Face After Anna Nicole Smith’s Ex Companion Charged
A New York publisher has major egg on its face after doubting the authenticity of my sources. More than a year ago, I sent a proposal for a book titled “Who Killed Anna Nicole Smith?”, about the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith to Simon & Schuster (Atria), which had an option on my next book after publishing my 2004 New York Times bestseller Love & Death.
A major focus of my book proposal was the role of Anna Nicole’s lawyer, Howard K. Stern, who I knew from an impeccable source (Anna Nicole herself) was a major supplier of her drugs. In the investigation I conducted after her death, I had discovered the full extent of the illegal network that conspired to keep Anna hooked so that she would remain dependent on the sleazy Stern, who later falsely claimed to be the father of her daughter, Dannielynn.
But when I pitched the book to S & S, they politely declined, saying they were worried about Stern’s litigious nature. The publisher also implied that they doubted Stern’s involvement. In my proposal, I also singled out Anna’s doctor, Khristine Eroshevich, in the conspiracy.
Today, of course, my allegations were vindicated when both Stern and Erosevich were charged with felony offences and conspiracy in connection with illegally supplying and prescribing the drugs that fed her addiction. The California Attorney general, Jerry Brown, even singled out Stern as the “principal enabler.”
At a time when New York publishers are facing a major financial crisis, I wonder what it would have done for Simon & Schuster’s bottom line if they had a book ready to release telling the inside story of what went down.

Poor Anna Nicole, I felt sorry for that crazy, messed up chick. Sad that no-one stepped in and tried to sort her out like her soul sister Britney. Well done for getting the story though Ian, keep it up!

ReplyI wonder what this mess is going to do for Rita Cosby. Wasn’t Stern suing her? I’m not sure what it was she said about him that initiated the law suit, but I was under the impression it was mostly the allegation that Stern and Birkhead were lovers and that some sex tape of them existed. Anyway, I’m sure RC probably alleged that HKS controlled Anna with drugs as well. I’m betting that part of the lawsuit will be dropped tout de suite, no? Well, Ian since we don’t have YOUR book to reference, I guess I’ll have to dig up Rita’s book as a read along companion to the never-ending ANS saga….Sad really. The only person it seems who really tried to help her was that old billionaire geezer. Everyone else just used her or helped her self-destruct.
ReplyHKS kept her dependent on drugs because that was the only use she had for him and he knew it. It really was a sad situation that the woman laid in bed and was dying right in front of them and no one done anything. When a person is dying of an infection it’s not like they just lay down and go to sleep and never wake up. Her body had to go through quite a bit first. Body organs had to shut down and it’s not a pretty thing to watch. I think everyone around her is accountable in some way. They all enabled her to some extent by trying to hide her addiction. I agree with the poster who said her husband was the only one who gave a damned about her. She didn’t care one whit about him though.. just wanted his money. I don’t get her mother wanting her to be buried in Texas. .. but that’s a whole different story.

I think she cared about her husband as a father figure she never had and as a person who cared about her and cared for her, but I think she grew tired of him, wanted to live a wild fantasy kind of life and that basically didn’t include him too often. I do think that she was at one time grateful for all he did for her.
ReplyHe got her into Betty Ford. He basically saved her life which she did acknowledge, but her addictions got the best of her. I don’t think she was sober for long after she walked out of Betty Ford. She would have to hide that from him as well I imagine.
Of course, I don’t believe she ever loved him as a husband. I’m not sure someone like Anna Nicole is necessarily capable of love. She put what she wanted before everyone else including her own children. I don’t know that she was necessarily a particularly bad person, although she very well may have been. I do think she had a shitty childhood with shitty parents; she was not particularly intelligent; she saw a way out of a hellish, modest, boring life ( by stripping) and she went for all the excitement fun and glamor that she probably dreamed about as a little girl, but look where it all got her…
As much as I think HKS is made of scuzz that even scum is disgusted by, if he hadn’t been her enabler/pusher/pimp, somebody else would have been. She was a lost cause shortly after she got out of Betty Ford. Sad but true.
I say up your price Ian, now is the time to sell that book, before these two get off.

ReplySo, you didn’t bother shopping the book to any other publishers or even self publishing it? I just Googled to read more information about it and there wasn’t even a single result except for this lone blog entry

I can see SS point since Rita was sued but I think it was pretty obvious that he kept her high to keep her under his control. And that doctor that was her “friend.” You know whast they say about friends like that. I just hope the charges can stick. Last night on HLN an attorney was worried about so much time having passed. Idk but they should get in deep doo doo for enabling her and letting her die.

ReplyAt least Mr Halperin manages to get the occasional story though Mr Moly hey? Rather than simply compiling a list of reader’s anecdotes about their vague and totally uninteresting brushes with z-list celebs (often without giving names) and regurgitating stories from other gossip sites/tabs while raking in a fortune from advertising revenue. I know who I’d rather read, but to each their own.

Just e-mails from people on their brushes with has-beens and totally dull stories converted into blind items cos you don’t want to risk being sued nowadays.
