IUC Exclusive: Was IUC used by al-Qaeda?

Cat Stevens now goes under Yusuf Islam

Cat Stevens is Yusuf Islam

A close relative of Cat Stevens told IUC today he thinks IUC is being set up by al-Qaeda.  In response to reports about Stevens’ link to Bin Laden, the relative said, “with all due respect Ian, I think you were set up.  Brother Yusuf (Cat’s Muslim name)  is a man of peace and dignity.  I don’t think he associates with Bin Laden anymore.  I’d be shocked.”  The relative admitted Stevens and Bin Laden were friends 15 years ago, when Bin Laden spent time in England.   “I know Yusuf’s mission is to bring peace to the world – not terror.”  The relative asked his name not be used for publication because he lives in the U.S.  “The last thing I need is people showing up at my door making threats,” he said.  “I want to live in peace.”  The relative contradicted his “peace” statement when he told IUC Islam would not shed tears if the state of Israel was destroyed.  “They’re building a modern Holocaust,” he said.  “It’s worse than World War II.”

    c’mon Ian, don’t give this anti semite the time of day. He only cares about the destruction of innocent people. How dare him call for Israel’s destruction. I hope he comes out with a new album soon cause it will only sell three copies. He’s a total loser.

    I always wondered about his conversion to Muslim. His background is Greek (thru his father) and I think English (thru his mother). Wonder what led him down this path? All of his songs talked of peace and brotherhood, for the most part. He’s almost unrecognizable now, both physically and in personality.

    Howard Galganov, the man didn’t call for the destruction of Israel, he talked about how Muslims hate the nation for their slaughter of thousands of innocent Palestinian civillians in reprisal for Hamas’ rocket attacks. For every Israeli who dies in the conflict, 100 Palestinians have died. You really wonder why Israel is hated around the world? Not to mention its bulldozing of Palestinian homes; forcing Palestinians to live under curfew and with hundreds of checkpoints limiting their movement around their land; shooting dead innocent British peace protestors; occupying and building homes in land that does not belong to them; believng they can bomb their way to peace rather than use any diplomacy whatsoever; the list goes on. And an anti-semite is someone who hates Jewish people, not someone who is made angry by the neo-colonialist and brute force political tactics of the Israeli government.

    How can you negotiate with people who plant bombs on pregnant women and children. I know people who live in Israel and receive news directly from there. The information contradicts what we see on the news as the news is heavily biased against the Israelis. The reason that there have been so many casualties is that Hamas fired rockets while stationing themselves amongst schools, homes, and other heavily occupied places. I saw a video that showed a Hamas soldier grabbing a small boy and dragging him in front of him using him as a human shield. Israelis take the palestinians they wound to hospitals. This does not happen the other way around. All that needs to happen for peace is for the moslems to let Israel exist as a nation. Then the Israelis would not have to fend for their very lives.

    Sorry Maria but the situation is far more complicated than that. First Israel needs to stop the illegal occupation of the land that isn’t their’s and stop building settlements on it. Then it needs to dismantle the over 600 checkpoints that prevent Palestinians from going about their daily business. Then they need to take the wall separating the land that they think belongs to them from the Palestinians down and stop bulldozing the houses of innocent civillians. Then they need to stop thinking it is justifiable to kill 1000 Palestinians in response to terrorst attacks. Did the UK go and bomb parts of Ireland in retaliation for the terrorist attacks? No. Did it sit down and negotiate both with the IRA and Sinn Fein? Yes. Do we now have peace in the UK? Yes. America and Israel need to rid themselves of the misnoma that you can wage war on terror. The reality is you can’t, all you do is proliferate it. There will be no peace in Israel and the world until Israel recognises Palestine’s right to nationhood and sits down and talks with Hamas.

    OK If you are really in the know-how of this whole Bin Laden fiasco, this is a state-sponsored terrorism. Osama is a CIA asset, back in the 70s where it all started. Actually \”Al-Qaeda\” is loosely translated as \”The Database\” in English – DATABASE of MUJAHEEDEEN troops the CIA used to fight against the Russians during the cold war. Google who \”Indira Singh\” is, the front company P-Tech, and Sibel Edmonds who blowed the whistle on FBI and CIA ties to Turkish terrorism as well. Sigh. It\’s all a game. The world governments want their people to think we are fighting each other when in reality they\’re all allies using tax money for war corporatism.

    @Keane:
    I agree that the situation is far more complicated than any of us could realize. And I do think it is made worse by the USA’s seemingly blind support of anything that Israel does. Yes, they have a right to protect their country from unwarranted attacks. But they do not have a right to kill innocent civilians and to build settlements on land that isn’t their’s. Until the US takes a more open approach to the problems in the Middle East, absolutely nothing will change. Israel has been and is a strong ally to the US, and we need to continue to honor that alliance. But does honoring it mean we must sanction everything that Israel does? It’s no wonder that the US is widely hated by most Muslim peoples and countries. I don’t know what the answer is, but I do know that continuing to turn a blind eye to atrocities committed on BOTH sides (Israel and Hamas) is not the solution.

    Oh crikey, enough with the conspiracy ranting. The objective of the U.S. at war against bin Laden and his confederates was to prevent a coalition of Muslim states from forming under his leadership or someone like him. We have succeeded in that endeavor, to the extent that the Islamic world is busy fighting each other more than they are fighting us, which was our primary objective.

    All that said, it would not surprise me in the least if Cat Stevens were a cutout for an Al Qaeda money laundering operation going way back. After all, he is a convert to Islam, and converts have a tendency to be More Catholic than the Pope. The man is, in all likelihood, a zealot.

    @section9:
    I thought that a major objective was to capture the damn man and we have yet to do that , after 8 years of trying!!! The Middle East is no more secure or peaceful than it was before 9/11. Actually, our misguided war in Iraq and our capture and execution of Saddam Hussein has seriously destabilized that country to the point that we can’t withdraw our troops for fear of a total meltdown. Saddam was a vicious dictator, but he was a secular Muslim who kept the radicals in check and kept that country from a major civil war. We had absolutely no right to interfere in that country’s politics nor overthrow his regime simply because we didn’t like it. In following that line of reasoning, there are any number of Muslim states that should feel jusitified in attacking the US too. Saddam was not involved in 9/11, despite what Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld wanted us to believe. The Bush administration manufactured a series of lies to get Congress and the American people behind the idea of a war in Iraq. And what do we have to show for it? Nothing but thousands of American lives lost, our economy fatally damaged due to the billions of dollars wasted in the war, and many more thousands of dead Iraqis, many of whom are civilians. Not to mention the serious damage done to American prestige in the rest of the free world. In the meantime, Osama Bin Laden continues to hide out near the Afghan/Pakistan border, laughing at us.

    @Keane:
    Well, I don’t know about that. But it’s about time we all accept the truth that America was snookered into the Iraq war and we will be paying the consequences in money wasted, prestige damanged, and lives lost for many, many years. Thank God we at least now have a President who was against the war from the start and will do everything he can to get us out of it. He will also direct American efforts at a far more dangerous country – Afghanistan, and perhaps he will finally be successful in capturing Bin Laden. Bush sure seemed to forget Bin Laden’s name after his futile attempts to capture him, didn’t he? Like I said, with the misguided and criminal policies that we have followed for the past 8 years, it’s no wonder that so many Muslims hate this country. It’s no wonder that our allies looked on in shock as we asserted our right to spread American imperialsim in the Mideast.
