Angie how old is America? 230 odd years isn’t it? Its taken that long to elect anything other than a white male as your leader babe, that’s far from liberal and progressive I’m afraid. America is built on the principle of everyone being equal and everyone having equal rights, yet the only people who have ever had power are white, heterosexual males. To get a mixed race man (let’s forget he’s not actually 100% African American, he’s actually more Arab American than anything) into the White House was an uphill battle and the world was amazed it actually happened. And that’s not to say there wasn’t still a whol lot of prejudice against him as there would have been Hillary too if she had been the Democrat’s candidate. You really call this a liberal and free-thinking society? Obama has literally just happened. Your electorate re-elected George Bush even after the horrendous disaster of the invasion of Iraq and this was a mere 4 years ago. If you don’t think the conservative middle classes don’t hold serious power in your country you must have been born yesterday.

How can you people say you don’t care abou Jake? I still don’t know if any of this is true. If it is true, I feel sorry for Reese. She has a right to know. She is bringing this man around her children. Wouldn’t you want to know before you brought somebody like that around your children? That way she can decide for yourself if he should be allowed to be around her children.

I am just an average american. I would like to know who is living a secret gay lifestyle. NO I will not support them. How can I fantasize about someone when they are actullay taking it in the butt. It just grosses me out. Since I have found that Will Smith is gay and his marriage is a sham I have refused to watch any of his movies. I usually go see a movie every week and won’t be spending any more money on his. Why don’t these people come out of the closet and find out for themselves?

Come to think of it, three people suddenly e-mailing Mr. Halperin within two days and blabbermouthing about their alleged relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal (under the cover of anonymity, of course, but if their claims were true Jake might recognise them easily, wouldn’t he?)… Mmmm, this is a very suspicious coincidence. Plus that ’scoop’ about Oprah’s upcoming ‘coming out’… Too much is too much, you see, Ian. I suspect a big bluff. Hope it improves your falling sales, at least!

If we lived in the 1950s, we wouldn’t have overwhelmingly elected a black man as president. There ARE people who live in the 1950s BUT they are a minority and a vocal one at that. And with our economy being so bad, I can assure you who Jake sleeps with at night IS NOT something that is going to prevent people from seeing his movies. The only thing that will prevent people from seeing his movies is if he does crappy movies. That’s it. Most people nowadays HERE in America don’t give two shits.

The Bible Belt is a small fringe group–they did NOT elect Barack Obama by a landslide. I don’t know why Hollywood is being controlled by an obnoxious fringe group that is no longer talking for mainstream Americans. If they were, we wouldn’t have President Obama. Keane, do you know HOW many people voted in our last election? It was our most ever. That was not a minority population that got Obama elected. It was people of all racial and ideological stripes. I think the rest of the world needs to wake up and realize that.

But Angie, the Claymates WERE shocked when Clay came out, did you not read the posts on his fansite, it was hilarious! I’m a Brit and even I know about hugely conservative Middle America, the Bible Belt etc. Its not a lunatic fringe at all, its the mainstream ticket-buying, record-buying public. At the end of the day films and record companies are businesses, they’re not gonna risk sales or going bust for the small issue of honesty! If the cap doesn’t fit then deny it, that’s the way it goes. As long as the world keeps buying it. Hollywood doesn’t live in the 50’s so much as America does. The UK is far more forward-thinking but most of our actors/singers/presenters are still in the closet. Hell you can’t even swear or blaspheme on American telly, in the UK its fuck this and for God’s sake that in every other sentence. Hollywood is just trying to appeal to its hardcore audience.
