IUC Lifestyle: Oprah’s weight gain: bitter irony for the healthy lifestyle spokesperson or marketing genius?
Ah, how we never tire of discussing celebrity weight gain, loving to hate on
the too fat or too skinny. Officially on newsstands today we learn how Oprah
has gained 40 pounds and feels like “a big fat cow”. I know, sooo sad,
right? While some bloggers say her eating is analogous to the reckless
spending of Americans in recent years, and that noshing hunks of brie on
baguette while chugging red wine is just her version of a saying f-it and
buying a Plasma TV, has anyone considered that Oprah may have had yet
another stroke of marketing genius? Like Britney¹s “For The Record” full of
saccharine tears and pleas for pity, perhaps what we are truly witnessing is
Oprah unearthing yet another way to be the headliner. Seriously, imagine
that backstage at Harpo there¹s a whole team of cleaver marketers slicing up
cheesecake, ordering pizza and chanting “eat, Oprah, eat”!!! Hot dog
scarfing challenges followed by pie gulping races. Buffets round the clock.
Big O (always the humanitarian) even has a second motive and is pimping her
ass to nutrition and fitness gurus, thus giving a healthy dollop of crème
fraîche to the weight loss industry. You know, I bet Obama is totally in on
it. They meet secretly and he puffs on cigs, staying svelte as ever, while O
belches and chugs cola, giving it up for the greater good. Ladies and
gentlemen, drum roll please, in a combined effort of perfectly timed genius,
January will bring Obama¹s inauguration and Oprah¹s big fat tears.
