IUC Exclusive: Did Scientology sabotage my website to prevent me outing Church members Will Smith and John Travolta?
The world’s leading authority on the Church of Scientology, long-time Church critic Arnie Lerma, believes that yesterday’s 8-hour blackout of my site, following an explosive expose of new Scientologist Will Smith, was very likely the result of sabotage by the COS.
Lerma, a one-time fiancee of L. Ron Hubbard’s daughter, Suzette, runs the respected Scientology watchdog site, Lermanet.com. He said that his own servers have been repeatedly victimized by Denial of Service attacks over the years.
Lerma, a one-time high ranking Scientologist, is all too familiar with the kinds of tactics employed by the Church. In the mid-70’s, after Church officials discovered his plan to elope with Suzette, officers of the Church’s powerful Sea.org unit threatened to “mutilate” him if he didn’t cancel the planned marriage. He quit the Church soon afterwards.
“The Church is capable of spending the money to buy the best blackhats in the business,” Lerma tells IUC. “Faced with men in black with envelopes filled with cash, it is easy to imagine what ‘you can name your price’ might buy, including the sabotage of your own website. Welcome to the fray, Mr. Halperin.”
When I premiered my film, His Highness Hollywood, at Manhattan’s National Arts Club in March, the projector was sabotaged with 10 viruses, according to the NAC technician. In the film, I infiltrated Scientology posing as a gay actor seeking to be turned straight. One of the highlights of the film is an interview with long-time Scientologist Michael Pattinson, a prominent Beverly Hills artist who was a Scientologist for almost 25 years and filed a lawsuit in US federal Court against the Church because he claimed that Scientology promised to turn him straight. He claimed he spent $500,000 in auditing fees since he joined the Church in the 70’s but is still gay. In this clip from the film, Pattinson outs John Travolta, who joined the Church around the same time as him in the early 70’s. It is this clip in particular that many Scientology critics believe prompted the sabotage of the projector that night. Now history has repeated itself after I outed Will Smith.
