Queen Elizabeth now does her own shopping
Looks like Britons are tired of supporting their longest welfare recipients – The Royal Family. OMG, Queen Elizabeth at the ripe age of 82 has finally become self sufficient. She was spotted recently shopping with one of her granddaughters in Knightsbridge. Wonder if she has an black AmEx credit card or if she reached under her mattress and paid cash with all the dough she allegedly stashes there. Would have been cool if she accidentally bumped into her old pal Mohamed Al Fayed. btw, only one pudgy security guard followed The Queen, keeping at an arms length distance. The Queen looked haggard, wearing a red hat, short black skirt and red jacket. Her brown heels were the one thing that seemed totally out of place – looked like she bought them at an Army Surplus outlet.

I for one say this is a disgrace! While many people may think keeping up a monarchy is a terrible waste of time and money I disagree! I would rather have a monarch whose homes and tiaras we pay for as opposed to a president that invented a reason to invade Iraq leaving the middle classes here to suffer.

In fact…if the Queen is having to do her own shopping I say we all band together and send donations to Ol’Bess!

Queen Elizabeth may have remembered her credit card while shopping in Knightsbridge this week, but she obviously left her stylist behind. While the Queen donned a frumpy skirt and jacket the true horror was that she seemed to have tied the whole look together with a pair of shoes that one can only guess she scored from the 75% off bin during senior’s day at Marks & Spencer. Luckily, she is still able to take time from her exhausting schedule for some QT with Prince Will’s sweetheart, Kate Middleton. After a long heart-to-heart, the queen insisted that Kate get a job if she should want to secure her place in the royal family. It seems the queen may be loosening up her buttons a bit- Princess Diana never had it so good.

While I would never believe the Queen could be caught feet first dead shopping for “meself” in Britain’s working class district….I swear by the knights of the round table, I spied her singing the little ditty: “They Call Me Second Hand Rose…” while stuffing her bunion-sodden left foot into a used Manolo Blahnik in Picadilly Circus last summer. Rumor has it she’s taking over Isaac Mizrahi’s line for Target; they don’t call her a Queen for nothing! Anyway, even her hairdresser knows Liz has a foot fetish. A secret source revealed that more than half of Imelda Marcos’s booty belonged to the Queen. Senora Marcos was subletting her deep shoe pockets to the Queen; a closet shoeaholic. Meldi was thrilled they shared the same size and was hoping some real royalty would rub off on her stocking feet.

The Queen decides to go shopping alone for the first time ever at the height of the credit crunch. Was this a well chosen media stunt? – Well, surely, it could have been nothing else… The Queen cannot appear publicly without advisors and courtiers planning her every movement. One just wonders what message the Queen hoped to convey at this point? – ‘I can still afford to shop, and I am also one of the few people in this country fortunate enough to live on inheritance alone’ (and the richest of those)? Well chosen moments indeed, Queenie. It is, of course, at times like this, that the country starts to make sideways glances towards the monarchy. And precisely why should they escape the terrors of financial uncertainty, or, moreover, the certainties of financial deprivation ?

The argument is of course made that the Queen brings in tourists, and that they spend money, which fuels the economy. But don’t tourists visit nearby Republics too, like… hmm, neighbouring France and Ireland ?

I think the Queen should be made to visit shops with absolutely no means of buying anything – none of those paper notes with her head on, and no credit card either – and then she should be made to deal with the throngs of tourists whch she apparently bought in, whilst explaining to them why everything is so expensive here, in the UK, and why so few Brits shop in Knightsbridge.

We’re civilized, relatively, so, no, let’s not behead her, let’s just get some perspective. Less shots of the Royal’s fawning at Carla Bruni, and more grit and reality. Liz, if you want your job, you are going to have to show some humility… and that doesn’t mean shopping in Britain’s most upper class retail district!

I think the Queen looks fabulous in red. And I like her hat. Haggard??? The woman’s 82–she looks great for her age. Maybe next season she’ll be on “Dancing With the Stars”.
